Hogwarts Legacy marked the beginning of an exciting year in gaming for 2023. Developed by Avalanche Software, this project provided an immersive Harry Potter experience that captivated fans. The meticulous recreation of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, coupled with its expansive open world, offered players the chance to uncover hidden secrets through thorough exploration.
Experiencing the school as a fully customizable student was a delight, providing a fresh perspective on a time period untouched by the Harry Potter books. However, this viewpoint has been extensively utilized. To introduce a refreshing narrative twist, a potential sequel to Hogwarts Legacy could feature the main character as a professor. This shift in perspective would offer a completely new angle through which the game and the wider Wizarding World can be explored.
A Hogwarts Professor Protagonist Could be a Fun New Perspective
Instead of being guided by professors, the Keepers, or fellow Hogwarts students looking for help, Hogwarts Legacy presents a unique opportunity for players to take on the role of a professor. Managing unruly students, teaching classes, and making influential decisions that shape the entire school experience are all fascinating aspects that could provide a fresh and engrossing gameplay twist. By shifting the focus onto the responsibilities of a professor, the game opens up new possibilities for creating a compelling narrative.
Classes Were Optional in Hogwarts Legacy
A possible follow-up to the first game could involve the player stepping back into the shoes of their previous character, but this time, a few years have passed and they now assume the role of a teacher. This is not an uncommon progression for the franchise, as depicted by Neville Longbottom's transition from student to Herbology teacher and Head of Gryffindor. However, returning to the role of a student once again runs the risk of feeling repetitive and potentially limiting the potential growth of the series.
Hogwarts Legacy allowed fans to fulfill their long-held desire of immersing themselves in the enchanting castle halls as a student. It was a dream come true for millions of franchise enthusiasts. Donning the sorting hat to become part of one of the four distinguished and iconic houses, and discovering solace in the exquisite common rooms was truly awe-inspiring. Just like Harry, Hermione, and Ron, the protagonist swiftly gets plunged into the depths of a captivating conspiracy that gradually unravels throughout the storyline, delivering an immensely gratifying experience.
However, the lack of surprises and adherence to the promotional material dampened any sense of astonishment upon the game's release in February. The player character's role mirrors that of Harry Potter, with Professor Eleazar Fig serving as a clear representation of Dumbledore. While the other teachers possess intriguing qualities, they did not enforce any penalties for skipping classes. This minor disappointment showcases the predictability of Hogwarts Legacy, failing to capture the full range of experiences as a student at the esteemed school. Perhaps a sequel from a professor's perspective would inject the necessary unpredictability and enable the story to venture into uncharted territory.
Hogwarts Legacy can currently be played on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and a Switch version is slated for release on November 14, 2023.
