Treyarch is introducing the Zombies mode to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The initial trailer and blog post have been released, unveiling the exciting new storyline called Operation Deadbolt Zombies. Here are all the details unveiled up until now.
Continuing from the Dark Aether narrative of Black Ops Cold War, Operation Deadbolt was developed as a response to the outbreak incidents observed by Requiem operatives throughout the Cold War period.
Task Force 141, in Operation Deadbolt, is tasked with halting Viktor Zakhaev, a primary antagonist from Modern Warfare 2019. Zakhaev is responsible for initiating a Zombies epidemic by utilizing a potent vial of Aetherium. This Zombie-inducing substance is comparable to the Dark Aether crystals from the previous narrative, but it has now been refined into a more lethal form. Task Force 141's objective is to reveal Zakhaev's complete intentions regarding the outbreak and Aetherium.
Leading the operation is Kate Laswell, known from Modern Warfare, in collaboration with Johnny "Soap" MacTavish. Additionally, they have enlisted the expertise of Zombies specialist Captain Sergei Ravenov, a Spetsnaz operative aligned with Requiem in the battle against the Omega Group in the Zombies storyline of Black Ops Cold War.
According to Activision's blog post, the new version of Zombies featured in this game will have a mix of both living and undead enemies. The living enemies will be a private military company called Terminus Outcomes, hired by Zakhaev for added muscle.
As mentioned before, this will not follow the traditional round-based format of Zombies. Instead, it offers an open-world experience with survival elements and PvE extraction. Similar to Black Ops Cold War's Outbreak mode, Zombies in Modern Warfare 3 will include incursion zones in various regions that increase in difficulty. However, Activision assures players that the mode still includes key Zombies features, such as special story missions and secrets waiting to be uncovered.
Zombies are set to debut with the release of Modern Warfare 3 on November 10. Additional details about multiplayer and Warzone will be revealed on October 5 during Call of Duty: Next. In the meantime, be sure to explore the already announced features of Modern Warfare 3.
