Unleash the Power of Google Maps: Get Real-Time Weather Updates on Your Android!

Google Maps now provides real-time weather data on Android, a feature previously available only on iOS Stay informed about weather conditions while navigating, ensuring a seamless and convenient travel experience

The Google Maps app on Android now has the ability to display real-time weather updates. When searching for a location, you will see a small weather icon below the search bar, indicating the current temperature and air quality index of that location. By tapping on the weather icon, you can access more information such as a six-hour forecast and the "feels like" temperature.

This feature was initially discovered by Nail Sadykov from the Google News Telegram channel. Sadykov mentions that the iOS version of Google Maps has provided real-time weather data since 2019. It is unclear why this feature was missing from the Android version, as it can be quite useful for planning trips or navigating around town. It is possible that the omission was due to the timing of Google's app redesign efforts, which have been focused on incorporating the Material You design language over the past two years.

Google Maps relies on The Weather Channel for temperature, rainfall, and air quality data. When you check the weather for a specific location in Google Maps, you will find a quick link to The Weather Channel for more detailed information. By tapping on this link, you can access a 24-hour forecast, wind speed details, and other relevant data. It's worth noting that Google Maps does not offer a satellite weather mode, but you can still view weather information within the immersive view of Google Maps.

Please remember that Google does not have its own weather app. It does offer weather widgets, a weather website, and real-time weather information on Google Maps. However, if you prefer a traditional weather app, you will need to download a third-party option. The APK Insight team at 9to5Google discovered an unfinished weather app earlier this year, but Google did not announce it at their I/O event in 2023, and it was not included in the Android 14 update. It is unfortunate, as some individuals are still searching for a replacement for Dark Sky.

The availability of real-time weather data on Google Maps is being slowly rolled out. It is currently accessible on certain Pixel phones and will gradually be made available on other Android devices. To ensure the functionality of real-time weather, you may need to update your app. Please visit the Play Store and ensure that you have the latest version installed.
