Whirlwind has always been a crowd-favorite build for Barbarians in the Diablo franchise, and it's no wonder why. The objective of the build is to accumulate enough Fury to sustain the skill for as long as possible. As Diablo 4 prioritizes player choice, it's natural to question if Whirlwind will still be a viable option.
The good news is that the answer is affirmative. However, not all builds are created equal, and some may not withstand the test of time. Although Whirlwind is not sustainable indefinitely, it can still dish out impressive damage in short bursts, allowing players to tackle even the toughest mobs.

To make the Whirlwind Build formidable and long-lasting, players must consider several factors. With all the Renown collected and at the highest level, they will have a total of 58 skill points to allocate. It is essential to invest in abilities that generate Fury, weaken enemies, and grant the Barbarian Berserk to close the gap with distant foes.
Latch onto opponents with Steel Grasp and spin your way to victory. Use Rallying Cry before the fight to boost morale and Leap onto enemies for strategic placement. For tougher opponents, activate Wrath of the Berserker to increase Fury and speed. But be careful when using Frenzy, it's best to keep it at level one to avoid unintentional deaths and maximize Berserk stacking potential.
Paragon Boards
Board | Paragon/Legendary Nodes | Glyph |
Start | Brawn, Raw Power | Ire |
Flawless Technique | Havoc, Flawless Technique | Mortal Draw |
Weapons Master | Weapons Master, Brute, Iron Strength, Raw Power | Territorial |
Carnage | Carnage, Fierce, Brash, Enrage, Berserker | Might |
Bone Breaker | Bludgeoner | Wrath |
Figuring out the paragon boards and glyphs may pose a challenge. The key is to ensure that the boards are adjusted to allow for proper snaking. While it may be difficult to attain the maximum 200 paragon points, those who do are rewarded with significantly enhanced powers. To avoid tediousness and confusion, it is unnecessary to list all nodes. Instead, players can navigate between the major nodes listed without issue. It is important to ensure that all stat bonus nodes within the designated glyph areas are purchased.
It is important to mention that in order to fully utilize the benefits of Walking Arsenal, players will need to switch their weapons. For this particular build, Barbarians must program Leap to a Two-Handed slashing weapon and Whirlwind to a two-handed bludgeoning weapon. By incorporating Frenzy into the rotation, players can maximize Walking Arsenal's damage output with all three weapon sets.
Gear
Slot | Aspect/Piece |

Gamers now have the freedom to select the gear with the best stats and add their preferred effect to it with the new aspect system. While increasing potion efficiency is helpful, aspects are truly game-changing. It's worth noting that some aspects can be swapped between gear, so the specific piece they're on is not critical.
For armor, the primary focus is on fury generation. Anything that enhances core skills and/or Whirlwind should be prioritized, but the main challenge is maintaining the skill channeling. To achieve this, players should seek out aspects from dungeons that provide resource bonuses, allowing them to channel for as long as possible after obtaining their Frenzy stacks.
Technique
Mastering Two-Handed Mace Expertise is crucial in managing the increasing difficulty of World Tiers. It provides an effective technique to keep up with the challenges and is particularly important when engaging in Whirlwind combat.
By generating Fury while casting and even more while in Berserk mode, this aspect of the build is crucial for Barbarians to continually regain Fury as long as they are surrounded by targets. When executed with the proper rotation, this should be a constant occurrence. Diablo 4 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
