Popular manga series Oshi no Ko is going on a temporary hiatus due to health issues of author Aka Akasaka, affecting another series as well.
Oshi no Ko became a global sensation combining elements of idol anime and murder mystery, and even reached the pinnacle of music charts with its captivating opening song.
While renowned for creating Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, Akasaka is currently immersed in writing and plans to utilize this break to catch up on pending tasks. Fans can eagerly anticipate the comeback of Oshi no Ko and Renai Daikou in September.
The manga adaptation of the well-known anime series Oshi no Ko will be temporarily suspended for a minimum of one month. This is attributable to Aka Akasaka, the author, facing health difficulties. Consequently, not only Oshi no Ko, but also Renai Daikou, another popular manga series by Akasaka, will be affected.
The announcement of this hiatus was made through Akasaka's official Twitter account, where the details regarding the break and a personal message from Akasaka himself were shared. Although it appears that the issue has already been resolved and Akasaka is on the path to recovery, he requires time to catch up on the missed work from the previous month. Hence, the hiatus aims to provide him with the opportunity to compensate for the lost time.
Oshi no Ko made a huge impact in the world of anime this year. While there are countless idol anime released annually, Oshi no Ko managed to stand out as something exceptional. With its blend of idol elements and murder mystery, it captivated fans worldwide with its unexpected storyline. Additionally, the opening song "Idol" by YOASOBI achieved remarkable success, even topping international music charts despite being entirely in Japanese.
As often seen, the anime's popularity has sparked increased sales in the manga version, as fans eagerly seek more content, especially once the anime concludes. However, the release of the Oshi no Ko manga is facing a delay that may disappoint some fans. Nevertheless, understanding the reason behind this delay may provide some solace. Akasaka, the creator, revealed that he faced health challenges (potentially related to mental health) about a month ago, but his condition has improved in recent times.
Akasaka is famous for his manga Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, which was his final work as a manga artist. Currently, he has shifted his focus to writing for both Oshi no Ko and Renai Daikou. Oshi no Ko is illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, while Nishizawa 5mm handles the art for Renai Daikou. Given the success of his previous work, it seems that Akasaka's decision to concentrate on writing was a wise one.
In a recent tweet, Akasaka mentioned that he is now working under better conditions and plans to use this opportunity to catch up on his work for both Oshi no Ko and Renai Daikou. It's no secret that the manga industry can be demanding, with grueling hours and constant pressure to meet tight deadlines. We hope that Akasaka recovers swiftly from his illness and commend him for being honest with his fans and taking the necessary time for his recuperation. In September, fans eagerly await the release of the next chapters of Oshi no Ko and Renai Daikou!
At the time of publishing, Oshi no Ko is planning to return on September 14th, 2023, and Renai Daikou on September 7, 2023.
