Unexpected Comebacks in Fast X: Cast Spills on Returning Characters

Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez have brought back two major characters from previous Fast and Furious movies for Fast X. The latest installment of the franchise features the found family facing off against new villain Dante Reyes (played by Jason Momoa) and also includes surprise appearances from Gal Gadot as Gisele and Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs. Gadot's return to the franchise comes after her last appearance in Furious 7, while Johnson's return follows his spinoff Hobbs & Shaw and absence from the most recent film, F9. Rodriguez added that while Gadot's return was expected, Johnson's return was a pleasant surprise and "really cool." Michelle Rodriguez found the idea of incorporating the Gal storyline in the Fast and Furious franchise amusing, stating that they get away with crazy things. She laughed and joked about how other franchises would not be able to do the same. The inclusion of the Gal storyline had been planned for a while and even had footage shot for it, so it was not as surprising to her as Dwayne Johnson's return. Nevertheless, she found it really cool. Overall, Fast X serves as a victory lap for the long-running franchise.

Not only do the Fast X cameos provide thrilling moments for fans, but they also serve as a tribute to the entire franchise. Although the introduction of these characters may seem like a fresh start, they are actually cleverly designed to create links to previous entries in the Fast Saga. This includes the revelation that the film's villain is the son of Fast Five's villain seeking vengeance for his father's death. Overall, the movie's main focus is on tying up loose ends and exploring new directions for previous plot threads until they reach their natural conclusions.
