Attention: The following article contains major spoilers for Fast X. Director Louis Leterrier has revealed how he managed to bring back Dwayne Johnson for a cameo in the movie, despite his highly publicized feud with Vin Diesel. In the mid-credits scene of Fast X, Johnson's character Luke Hobbs receives a call from Dante Reyes (played by Jason Momoa), who informs him that he is now Hobbs' next target due to his involvement in events that took place during Fast Five.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Leterrier revealed that he had to approach Johnson and his team to watch the movie first, as he had a specific idea of how the cameo would fit into the story. After watching the film, Johnson reportedly loved it. Leterrier joked that this was a "peace treaty" between him and Diesel, but admitted that he couldn't have continued the franchise without Johnson or Gal Gadot, who also appears in the movie's final scene as Gisele Yashar. Check out Leterrier's full response below:
Regarding the potential return of Luke Hobbs and Gisele Yashar in Fast X: Part 2, it seems that negotiations are already underway. According to one of the film's producers, they reached out to Dwayne Johnson and his team to gauge interest in a collaboration. After watching the film, Johnson expressed his admiration for it, and talks between the two parties began in earnest. As far as the producer is concerned, it would be difficult to continue the franchise without either Johnson or Gal Gadot, as the characters are such an integral part of what makes the series so beloved. While there is no official announcement yet, it seems that the pieces are falling into place for a thrilling reunion in the next installment.
The end of Fast X left fans with unanswered questions regarding the fate of Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Little Brian (Leo Abelo Perry) as Dante detonated explosives in a dam. Aimes (Alan Ritchson), who had been working for Dante all along, also shot down the plane carrying Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Ludacris), Han Lue (Sung Kang), and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel). With Jakob's (John Cena) sacrificial act to save Dom and Brian's lives, it's uncertain whether Dom's crew will be the main focus of Fast & Furious 11, especially if a third film is in the works to conclude the saga.
Instead of focusing on the continuation of Fast X, Fast & Furious 11 could shift its focus to the impending confrontation between Luke Hobbs and Dante Reyes. Reyes has made it clear that he is coming after Hobbs, which could lead to a reunion between Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, who teased a confrontation with Reyes in Fast X. This sets the stage for the return of Hobbs to the main Fast Saga, after his highly publicized clash with Diesel during the filming of The Fate of the Furious. It appears that the two stars have put their differences aside, and fans can expect a reunion between Toretto and Hobbs in some capacity.
In addition to Hobbs' storyline, Fast & Furious 11 is also expected to explain how Gisele Yashar survived her sacrifice in Fast & Furious 6, and may even reunite her with Han in the next film or in the concluding installment. While Fast X may have led audiences to believe that some characters have died, most of the presumed dead characters have returned to the franchise in elaborate ways. Letty Ortiz made a surprise return in Fast & Furious 6, and Han made his comeback in F9. As for who will return in the upcoming film and which characters will be the focus of the second part of Fast X, only time will tell. Fans can expect to see Fast & Furious 11 hit theaters in 2025.
