The Sanguine Chapel
Retrieving The Blood Chalice
In Diablo 4, there are numerous distractions for players besides the main story. They can spend hours exploring and engaging in gameplay without even involving themselves with Lilith or Lorath. However, there are certain benefits to completing at least part of the campaign, one of them being the unlocking of The Sanguine Chapel.
Similar to other dungeons within the game, The Sanguine Chapel offers the typical combination of puzzles and formidable enemies. However, this particular location holds an additional incentive for Rogues, as well as a chilling yet captivating side quest known as The Blood Chalice. To successfully navigate and unlock this dungeon, as well as discover its whereabouts in a desolate and ominous area, a guide can prove to be immensely helpful.
Unlocking The Dungeon
The Sanguine Chapel will not be visible on the map until the player completes The Light's Protection, a quest in Act I of the campaign storyline. However, this quest is only partway through the entire campaign, and players have the option to either complete the remaining quests in the Act I chain or venture northeast.
The main story campaign takes players through various zones in Sanctuary and consists of 19 missions. The final mission, Light's Resolve, requires players to locate and speak with Neyrelle, who can be found near Yelesna. This small town is located in the Fractured Peaks zone, far to the south in Gale Valley.
The Rogue class has a special bonus for unlocking the Sanguine Chapel. By completing it, they receive the Energizing Aspect. When this aspect is imprinted on a ring, it produces additional energy whenever the player attacks an Elite enemy with a Basic skill.
The Blood Sermon Quest
Wild animals such as bears and wolves, along with their mutated counterparts, as well as different types of undead creatures, inhabit this part of Fractured Peaks. Here you will encounter vampires, banshees, ghouls, skeletons, and spectral warriors and archers.
There are three dungeons tucked away in the Seat of the Heavens, the region in the far northeastern corner of Fractured Peaks.
The Bear Tribe Refuge
A compact village with a waypoint and crucial amenities like a healer and a blacksmith. It is advisable to visit this place in order to reach the convenient waypoint that leads to the stronghold of Malnok located to the south.
Additionally, several intriguing side-quests are available for exploration, including the Blood Sermon Quest. Consider taking on a few of them if gaining renown is part of the agenda.
The Blood Sermon Quest
Players can locate Sister Vera, the NPC associated with this quest, at two different locations. Initially, she can be found in Kor Valar, an ancient ruin situated to the northwest of the Bear Refuge. At this site, Sister Vera shares a heartrending account with the player, recounting the final moments of a fallen knight while she diligently attended to his injuries.
The protagonist will inform about the Knight and the Bishop indulging in an ominous ritual involving a Red Chalice. Consequently, the objective arises to journey to the tainted Bishop's location at the Sanguine Chapel and recover the chalice.
Few players have encountered a glitch during the quest, wherein Sister Vera is not present at the ruins but instead can be found within the confines of the Bear Tribe Refuge. If unable to locate Sister Vera in Kor Valar, it is advised to search for her at the refuge.
The Sanguine Chapel
The enemies and overall appearance of the Sanguine Chapel align with the region's theme. While there is no clever entrance strategy or hidden obstacles, locating the door can be quite challenging due to its inconvenient placement.
Within the chapel, one will encounter a multitude of undead creatures as well as corrupted Knights. In order to combat these adversaries effectively, the most beneficial solution is to equip oneself with an Elixir of Undead Slaying. Additionally, it is advisable to carry other useful elixirs such as the Elixir of Shadow Resistance and the Iron Barb Elixir.
Location
The Sanguine Chapel can be found perched on a snowy ledge at the northeastern edge of the zone. To locate it, start from Kor Valar and follow the mountain's edge in a southern direction. Eventually, you will come across a winding road that opens up to the left. This road will lead you to the shrine of the Penitent and then further onwards to Alabaster Peak. The entrance to the Sanguine Chapel can be found at the summit of Alabaster Peak.
Unlocking The Inner Dungeon
Upon entering the dungeon, the player will be greeted by a new quest waiting to be undertaken. This quest entails retrieving the missing items and placing them delicately on their respective pedestals, thus unlocking the door to the inner chamber. The first pedestal is located on the eastern side, while the second can be found on the western end. Caution must be exercised, as these pedestals are guarded by formidable elite enemies. Eliminating these enemies not only ensures safety but also unravels further secrets of the enigmatic dungeon.
Retrieving The Blood Chalice
After unlocking the entrance to the second half of the dungeon, players have the opportunity to embark on a ruthless rampage, obliterating each adversary within this area. This undertaking is not solely for amusement, but a necessary prerequisite to accessing the boss chamber. The adversaries can be identified as crimson dots on the map.
Fighting The Blood Bishop
Having minions or ranged weapons on hand is beneficial for this battle. Utilize Evade whenever possible and make use of any damage shields that are available to prevent being ensnared by the tentacles or struck by the shadow bolts.
The Bishop moves at a slow pace and is relatively easy to strike when alone, making area-of-effect attacks and ranged damage particularly effective in this scenario. However, be cautious of the ground. The Bishop will summon Blood Boils that will detonate unless eradicated by the player beforehand. Either evade them entirely or employ a damage-over-time spell to harm them while simultaneously targeting the Bishop.
Completing the Quest
Upon vanquishing the Bishop, the dungeon is considered conquered, paving the way for the coveted Blood Chalice to descend. To swiftly reap the rewards, it is highly recommended to teleport straight back to the Bear Clan Refuge. There, Sister Vera generously bestows upon the character a well-earned cache, a bounty of gold, a smattering of experience points, and bid adieu with an enigmatic farewell that hints at the possibility of further adventures yet to come.
Diablo 4 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
