Since the beginning of the Jujutsu Kaisen series, Pseudo-Geto (Kenjaku) has formed an alliance with four Disaster Curses: Jogo, Hanami, Dagon, and Mahito. These curses are known to be some of the strongest in the anime. But where exactly did the name "Disaster Curses" come from?
The title "Disaster Curses" may sound ominous, but is it just a name or does it hold significance to their abilities? If it does, what kind of disastrous powers do each of the Disaster Curses possess? And what are the fears that gave rise to these curses?

Pseudo Geto and three Disaster Curses, as seen in the image provided by MAPPA, are a group of four powerful cursed spirits. They teamed up with Pseudo-Geto (also known as Kenjaku) with the goal of defeating Satoru Gojo. Their intention was to wipe out humanity because they believed it was necessary and viewed Gojo, who possessed the Six Eyes, as a significant barrier. This led them to support Pseudo-Geto's plan to seal Gojo and create chaos in the world of Jujutsu.
The four Disaster Curses are Jogo, Hanami, Dagon, and Mahito. Each cursed spirit was created from the fear people had of different natural disasters. Mahito, however, was an exception as it was born from an unnatural fear.
The reason why the Disaster Curses are considered some of the strongest Special Grade Curses is because of the countless people throughout history who feared disasters. The fears represented by the cursed spirits could never be completely eliminated, ensuring that even if they were defeated, they would return periodically.
What fear does each of the Disaster Curses represent?
Jogo

Jogo embodies the fear people have of fire-related disasters, including volcanoes. Initially portrayed as a weak curse, his true strength was revealed when he faced Satoru Gojo.
During his battle against Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, it was revealed that Jogo possessed strength equivalent to nine of Sukuna's fingers. The King of Curses even acknowledged Jogo as one of the most formidable opponents he had ever encountered in history, solidifying Jogo's reputation as a powerful Disaster Curse.
Hanami

Hanami, featured in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, was similar to Jogo in representing people's fear of natural disasters. Created from humanity's fear of land-based disasters like earthquakes, Hanami did not hold any grudge against humans individually. However, the cursed spirit despised how humans mistreated the Earth.
Hanami, like other Disaster Curses, is known for its formidable strength. During the battles with Itadori and Todo, Hanami demonstrated its power by enduring four Black Flashes. However, Hanami is ultimately defeated by Satoru Gojo during the Shibuya Incident Arc.

Dagon embodies humanity's deep-seated fear of water-related disasters such as tsunamis and floods, as well as the mysterious creatures that lurk beneath the surface. The vast majority of the world's oceans and seas remain unexplored, leading to a sense of dread and apprehension towards the unknown depths of the sea and the beings that inhabit it. This collective fear gave rise to the entity known as Dagon.
Originally, Dagon was a timid Cursed Womb that primarily served as a shelter for Pseudo Geto and other Disaster Curses. However, his true power emerged following the tragic death of Hanami. Despite being able to overpower multiple Jujutsu Sorcerers simultaneously, his destructive rampage was ultimately halted by the intervention of Toji Fushiguro, who ultimately succeeded in defeating and eliminating Dagon.
Mahito

Mahito, as depicted in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, stands out from the other Disaster Curses. While they are born from people's fears of natural disasters, Mahito's origins lie in humanity's fear of each other. This unique source of power makes him the most dangerous cursed spirit among the four Disaster Curses.
Mahito possesses a terrifying ability to manipulate souls. This allows him to not only alter his own soul but also to transform people into humanoid curses. This power adds to his formidable nature, making him a formidable foe to be reckoned with.
Mahito's ability is troubling because he only has to touch his target to unleash it. This power was clearly demonstrated when he effortlessly killed Nanami and severely injured Nobara Kugisaki.
This showcases the immense strength of the Disaster Curses, making them the most powerful cursed spirits in the Jujutsu Kaisen series.
