The games industry has been exploring virtual reality for decades, yet it still seems like there's so much more potential to be unlocked. While VR headsets like the Meta Quest, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and PlayStation VR have been available for years, there's still a noticeable lack of high-quality, fully-realized VR games. Half-Life: Alyx and Walking Dead Saints and Sinners are currently leading the pack, but Ubisoft's upcoming release, Assassin's Creed Nexus, could be a major contender for the crown. First announced a few years ago and officially named just a few weeks ago, the game was finally revealed with a trailer at the recent Ubisoft Forward showcase. Boasting the ability to explore three different time periods and beloved characters from Assassin's Creed history, Assassin's Creed Nexus has the potential to become one of the greatest VR games ever made.
Every Assassin and Location Confirmed for Assassin's Creed Nexus So Far
Assassin's Creed Nexus promises to deliver a thrilling gaming experience as players step into the shoes of three legendary Assassins - Ezio, Kassandra, and Connor. The game's storyline revolves around a mysterious ancient artifact that brings the three Assassins together. Along the way, players will have the opportunity to explore some of the most iconic locations from the series while engaging in high-octane parkour and brutal combat.
Creative Director David Votypka revealed that the Ezio missions will take place two years after the events of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, in the beautiful city of Venice. Meanwhile, Connor's missions will run parallel to the events of Assassin's Creed 3, set in colonial Boston, where players will face off against the infamous British Redcoats. Kassandra missions will take place 20 years after the events of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, during the Reign of The Thirty Tyrants, a real-world historical event marked by the brutal execution and exile of Athenians under the rule of pro-Spartan leaders.
In Assassin's Creed Nexus, fans can expect to see iconic locations from the series rendered in faithful detail. However, unlike previous entries, these settings will be condensed into smaller, fully explorable open areas referred to as "open maps" by the game's Creative Director. While players won't be able to explore the entirety of places like Venice, Boston, and Athens, they will still have ample opportunities to parkour and explore their surroundings. Additionally, each playable character will have their own unique arsenal of weapons, with minor differences in movesets. For example, Kassandra will wield a special bow with potentially homing arrows, while Ezio and Kassandra will both use swords, and Connor will wield his signature tomahawk.
