The iconic HBO series Sex and the City has inspired a new reality dating show for people over 50. Author Candace Bushnell revealed the news on Instagram in November 2023, expressing her excitement to work on the project with @bunimmurray and encouraging followers to stay tuned.
The infamous alter ego introduced in Bushnell's 1996 newspaper column of the same name was inspired by the writer's own dating life. The show depicted the fabulous life of Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) and her friends as they navigated careers and love lives in New York City. The anthology not only inspired the six-season TV series but also two movies and the 2021 revival And Just Like That.
Now, Bushnell is teaming up with Bunim/Murray Productions to create a dating show for women who want to channel their inner Carrie. Titled Is There Still Sex in the City?, the series will follow four women in their 50s as they look for love. The ladies will leave their busy city lives behind for a trip to a country chateau where they will meet potential suitors.
"Women in their fifties and older are now the most sought-after demographic in the dating scene, and I can attest to that as I am one of them," Bushnell stated in a press release to Variety. "Throughout the years, I have dated men of various ages and I am thrilled to be involved in a show that merges my love for relationships with the opportunity to assist women, like myself, in navigating a second chance at love."
