"I am not going to dwell on the drama surrounding Kim Cattrall's rumored stipulations for reprising her role as Samantha Jones, nor will I waste energy on trying to change anyone's mind. It's important to respect people's wishes." Kristin Davis commented on Cattrall's upcoming cameo on And Just Like That, which reportedly was filmed separately from her former Sex and the City costars, during an interview with The Telegraph on June 9th.

The actress who portrays Charlotte York expressed her desire for a different resolution to the rumored cast conflict, acknowledging fans who are disappointed in the outcome. She regretfully stated that she is unable to rectify the situation as it is beyond her sphere of influence. Recently, Cattrall confirmed her brief appearance in the Sex and the City spinoff through a Variety article, which stated that Samantha will engage in a short conversation with Carrie Bradshaw. However, the article also claimed that the How I Met Your Father star did not interact with Parker or showrunner Michael Patrick King.

Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon were the original stars of Sex and the City, which aired for six seasons from 1998 to 2004, and subsequently returned for two movies. When Cattrall decided not to reprise her role for a third film, rumors circulated about a possible feud between her and Parker. However, Parker denied any animosity towards her co-star and clarified that she had never made any negative comments about Cattrall in public, despite any offscreen issues they may have had. In fact, Parker expressed her appreciation for Cattrall during an interview on the "Origins" podcast in 2018.

According to King, Samantha's departure from the series was influenced by the dynamics behind the scenes. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in December 2021, he revealed that Kristin, Cynthia, and Sarah Jessica formed a tight-knit group, while Kim felt like an outsider. King explained that Parker's name was contractually the only one on the poster due to her status as a movie star in 1998 and her decision to take a risk by doing a show about sex on HBO, a channel known for controversial content. Despite Kim's efforts to fight for equality, King suggested that it was unlikely to happen.

King explained that the decision to not include Kim Cattrall in the central cast of And Just Like That was made years ago when she decided not to reprise her role as Samantha. Despite this, King expressed his love for Cattrall and her portrayal of Samantha, and wanted to reflect the reality of her absence in the show's storyline. To avoid killing off the beloved character, King came up with the idea that Samantha was living in London.

Cattrall expressed her disinterest in the revival and clarified that the series essentially served as the third movie. In a 2022 interview with Variety, she revealed that she was not approached to participate in the reboot and learned about it through social media like everyone else. The second season of And Just Like That will air on MAX starting from June 22.
