Revamped Gameplay: Strongholds in Diablo 4Diablo 4 retains the classic isometric style of dungeon crawling and loot hunting that has become synonymous with the series. However, the game introduces new and unique gameplay elements that set it apart from its predecessors. One such element is the addition of Strongholds, which promises to elevate the player's experience by offering new challenges and rewards.
Once players successfully defeat a group of enemies that have taken over an area, Strongholds transform into a new space that offers a variety of benefits. These benefits may include a Waypoint for fast travel or access to additional content for players to explore. Although Scosglen only has three Strongholds, the rewards gained from conquering them make the effort well worth it.
Tur Dulra
Located along the coast northwest of Firebreak Manor, the Tur Dulra Stronghold is often one of the first Strongholds that players will come across. The main objective of this Stronghold is to rescue three druid spirits that are being held captive and tortured by demons. Once the spirits have been freed, the boss will spawn nearby.
Upon defeating the Stronghold, players will gain access to a Waypoint, three vendors, two dungeons, and two side quests. Druid players will also have the opportunity to embark on a quest to clear Tur Dulra, followed by another quest that introduces the Spirit Boon mechanic. Additionally, completing any Stronghold will reward players with 100 Renown.
Hope's Light
Located at the northernmost edge of Scosglen, the Stronghold of Hope's Light poses a challenging objective for players: to reach the pinnacle of the lighthouse and uncover the reason behind its darkness. The path to the top is not a straightforward one, as players must navigate through a complex network of islands and wrecked ships. In addition to this, players must also confront Elites along the way, while simultaneously searching for a lost winch that will create a pathway to the lighthouse's summit.
Players can easily defeat the boss near the top by avoiding the puddles and swiftly eliminating the adds that appear. While it may not be challenging, it is important to stay focused. Upon successfully clearing Hope's Light, players will receive a reward of 100 Renown and also gain access to the Flooded Depths dungeon.
Moordaine Lodge
Located in the northern part of Tirmair, the Moordaine Lodge is the final stronghold in Scosglen. To conquer this stronghold, players must first investigate the hunting grounds and unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of the hunters. The search begins at the lodge where players must explore the area and locate three scattered bodies. However, before discovering the third body, players will encounter the boss, who will launch an attack and retreat once its health drops to 75%.
During the challenging Stronghold boss battle, Fionnir reigns as the most formidable of the three bosses. In the initial phase, Fionnir transforms into a werewolf, only to shift into a human and cast spells during the second phase. In the final phase, Fionnir becomes a werebear and casts a barrage of earth spells and tornadoes, while constantly summoning additional foes to harass players. To overcome this daunting foe, players must skillfully dodge the tornadoes, steer clear of Fionnir's other spells, and remain mobile to evade his attacks. Upon defeating Fionnir and emerging victorious in the Moordaine Lodge, players will gain access to the Ferals' Den and Twisted Hollow dungeons.
Diablo 4 releases on June 6th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Early Access is available now.
