The new poster for the Willy Wonka prequel has been released, featuring the chocolatier in a sitting position that has been criticized for appearing strange and awkward. On X (formerly known as Twitter), user Erick Lorinc noted that the poster seems to have been edited to make it look like Timothee Chalamet, who plays Wonka, is sitting down when he was actually standing up in-character. This has resulted in a jarring posture and Chalamet's midsection appearing unnaturally elongated due to the digital alteration.
This isn't the first time that a movie poster has been ridiculed for a ridiculous photoshop. Take the iconic Ready Player One poster, for instance, which depicts Tye Sheridan's Wade with what could possibly be the longest leg in the history of the world.
In October, a new Wonka trailer was released, featuring the young inventor going up against the chocolate cartel. The trailer also gives a sneak peek at the rest of the film's cast, which includes Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Matt Lucas, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa.
Chalamet previously stated that Wonka offers a refreshing break from all the negative news and "intense political rhetoric" in the world. The origin story has been in development since 2016 with Harry Potter producer David Heyman. Wonka is scheduled for release in theaters on December 15.

As a passionate fan of the Willy Wonka franchise, I was thrilled to see the release of the new poster for the upcoming prequel film. However, I was taken aback by the strange and awkward seated posture of the chocolatier, which has been the subject of much criticism on social media. It appears that the poster has been digitally altered to make it look like Timothee Chalamet, who plays Wonka, is sitting down when he was actually standing up in-character. This has resulted in a jarring posture and Chalamet's midsection appearing unnaturally elongated.
While I understand that the filmmakers may have been trying to create a unique and eye-catching image for the poster, I believe that the execution fell short and ended up detracting from the overall impact. It's a shame that such a small detail has overshadowed the release of the poster and has become the focus of discussion among fans. I hope that the film itself will be able to deliver on the promise of the franchise and that this unfortunate misstep will be quickly forgotten.
