Overwatch 2 fans praised a fan-made animated pixel art inspired by Illari, the support hero who wields solar energy.
The pixel art received praise for its meticulous attention to detail as it recreated a scene from Illari's Origin Story video. Despite ongoing discussions about Illari's power level, her integration into the world of Overwatch 2 was positively received, leaving players eager for further character development and potential interactions with other heroes.
An artistic Overwatch 2 fan has created an animated pixel art piece inspired by Illari, the support hero introduced in August. Illari, hailing from Peru, is the sole remaining member of the Inti Warriors, a group renowned for their mastery of harnessing solar energy for combat. Her arsenal includes a Solar Rifle for long-range attacks against foes (left-click) and a medium-range healing beam for allies (right-click). She can also unleash a disruptive ball called Captive Sun that slows and damages enemies upon impact. Furthermore, Illari possesses a Healing Pylon ability that deploys a floating pylon to heal nearby allies. However, this ability was toned down when she entered Overwatch 2's competitive mode, along with her ultimate knockback ability called Outburst.
Many Overwatch 2 players became fans of Illari's overall design, especially after Blizzard released her Origin Story video, which showcased the hero inadvertently destroying all the Inti Warriors. The vibrant cinematic served as the inspiration for Reddit user vixit_art's animated pixel art. Utilizing the final scene from Illari's Origin Story - where she holds a luminous orb against the backdrop of her village - they created a stunning artwork.
In the comments section, numerous Overwatch 2 fans praised vixit_art's work and suggested that it would make an excellent desktop wallpaper. One online user went into detail, complimenting the remarkable wind effects in the background and the flawless movement of Illari's braid. This is not the first time vixit_art has created pixel animations featuring Overwatch 2 characters. On their Instagram page, @vixit_art, they have shared other pieces inspired by Widowmaker, Lifeweaver, and Symmetra.
Illari's addition to Overwatch 2 was well-received by the playerbase, despite some concerns about her being an overpowered support hero. However, many dedicated players saw this as an opportunity for Blizzard to set a new standard in balancing future heroes. Previous support characters had faced numerous challenges upon their release.
Overwatch 2 has crafted an engaging world that players can fully immerse themselves in, even beyond the actual game. Illari's lore offers a glimpse into another aspect of Overwatch 2's world. However, players are eager for interactions and connections between her and the other heroes. If Blizzard can seamlessly incorporate Illari into the storylines of other heroes, Overwatch 2 will feel even more invested in her narrative. This is definitely possible, especially if the developer aims to enhance and generate hype for this support hero.
Overwatch 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
