The mid-season finale of Invincible Season 2 has just revealed the introduction of Mark Grayson's newborn brother. What is the story behind this new addition? Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Episode 4 of Invincible Season 2. As we are introduced to Mark (Steven Yeun) in Season 1, he is portrayed as the only offspring of Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons) and Debbie Grayson (Sandra Oh).
Since then, the Grayson clan's dynamic has changed a lot - surprisingly, Nolan is now the villain. However, the overall number of family members has remained the same.
That is, until now. As we learn in Invincible Season 2, Episode 4, "It's Been A While," Mark discovers he has a sibling he never knew about.
Invincible Season 2: Who is Mark’s brother?
The sibling in question is Oliver, and he is actually Mark's half-brother. Although Omni-Man is the biological father of the purple-skinned child, Debbie is not his mother. Instead, Oliver is the result of Nolan being in a relationship with his new wife, Andressa (Rhea Seehorn), on the distant planet Thraxa.
This is the reason why Mark was unaware of Oliver prior to the mid-season finale of Invincible Season 2: he is a completely new baby from a faraway planet. This also explains Oliver's purple skin, as he, like Mark, is only partially Viltrumite. The rest of his genetic makeup is Thraxan, inherited from his mother.
As a result, Oliver seems to be older than his actual age, as Thraxans age faster than humans and Viltrumites. However, due to his Viltrumite ancestry, he will age much slower than a typical Thraxan. The genetic advantages passed down from Omni-Man come with both potential powers similar to his family's and the danger of being targeted by the Viltrum Empire.
When does Invincible Season 2, Part 2 arrive?
According to Nolan in “It’s Been A While,” Viltrumites are prohibited from mating with non-similar species, such as Thraxans. Offspring from such a union – like Oliver in this case – would be targeted for execution, as we see directly when a group of Viltrumites pays a visit later in the episode.
Oliver is fortunate to have apparently survived Season 2, Episode 4. The last time he is seen, Andressa is leading Mark’s brother to safety in one of Thraxa’s subterranean caves. Although Mark and Nolan are defeated, there is no sign that Oliver has been found. Fans will need to wait for Invincible Season 2, Part 2 to learn for sure what happened to Oliver. The release date for these remaining four episodes has not been confirmed, but Prime Video has announced that they are expected to premiere in early 2024.

Editor's P/S
As a hard fan of the Invincible series, I am thrilled about the introduction of Mark's mysterious brother, Oliver. This unexpected twist adds a new layer of complexity to the story and expands the show's universe. The reveal of Oliver's existence raises many questions about his past, his relationship with Mark, and his role in the ongoing conflict between the Viltrumites and Earth. I am particularly intrigued by the implications of Oliver's mixed heritage as a half-Viltrumite, half-Thraxan.
Will he inherit the same powers and abilities as Mark and the other Viltrumites? How will his Thraxan heritage influence his personality and motivations? These are just a few of the questions I am eager to see explored in future episodes. Overall, I believe the introduction of Oliver is a bold and exciting move that will add depth and excitement to the Invincible storyline. I can't wait to see what the future holds for this intriguing new character.
