The showrunners of Game of Thrones are facing criticism once more, this time from UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett, who referred to the controversial duo as "b***ends."
Following Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones is the second most significant fantasy franchise in pop culture. It has completely changed the mainstream language with George R.R. Martin's extensive world-building and quotes, and has also become one of the most-watched shows over the last ten years.
Unfortunately, disaster struck during its final season, which was widely criticized and caused fans to lose their enthusiasm. After facing backlash, the show disappeared, but has now been revived by House of the Dragon. Many fans are still upset about the original series' last episodes, and Pimblett didn't hold back in expressing his feelings about it.
UFC star Paddy Pimblett slams Game of Thrones showrunners
During a recent interview with Nina Drama, Pimblett was tasked with selecting his top movie. "I'm a big fan of movies, so it's really tough to choose just one. I absolutely love mob movies like Goodfellas, Once Upon a Time in America, The Godfather Part 1 and 2, and A Bronx Tale," he mentioned.
"I enjoy watching a variety of films, such as The Dark Knight and The Prestige. As for TV series, I used to consider Game of Thrones the best series ever made until Season 6, when the creators ruined it to work on Star Wars. Those two guys, D&D, really messed it up."
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were the showrunners of the series. Although their work in the earlier seasons sparked controversy, they also received praise from critics worldwide. However, their work outside of George R.R. Martin's source material led to increased criticism, and their development of the contentious series Confederate, which depicted a modern-day America where slavery was still legal, was officially canceled by HBO three years after it was announced.
The rushed and hasty story decisions at the end of Game of Thrones led many fans to believe that the duo was eager to pursue other projects. Originally set to write and produce a new series of Star Wars movies, they opted out of their contract for a lucrative $200 million deal with Netflix. Their next major project, an adaptation of The Three-Body Problem for the streaming platform, is set to launch next year. More information can be found here.
Editor's P/S
As a passionate fan of Game of Thrones, I share Paddy Pimblett's sentiments regarding the show's decline. The final season was a major disappointment, and it's frustrating to think that the showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, prioritized other projects over delivering a satisfying conclusion to the series. Their decision to rush through the story and deviate from George R.R. Martin's source material resulted in a disjointed and unsatisfying ending that left many fans feeling let down.
It's understandable that Pimblett would refer to the showrunners as "b***ends" given the level of disappointment and frustration felt by many fans. The show had built up such a loyal following and had the potential to go down as one of the greatest television series of all time, but the poor execution of the final season tarnished its legacy. While the earlier seasons were critically acclaimed and widely praised, the show's downfall is a reminder of the importance of staying true to the source material and respecting the fans who have invested so much time and emotion into a series.
