Tottenham has finalized the signing of Manor Solomon on a five-year contract, acquiring him on a free transfer. The talented Israeli winger had previously been on loan at Fulham from Shakhtar Donetsk during the last season, impressively netting five goals in 24 matches across all competitions for the Cottagers.
Solomon has agreed to a contract with Spurs until 2028, making him the club's third new addition this summer, joining James Maddison, who was signed for £40m, and Guglielmo Vicario, who arrived for £17.3m. Additionally, Spurs have made the loan deals for Dejan Kulesevski and Pedro Porro permanent.
Solomon was able to leave Shakhtar Donetsk for free this summer after a FIFA ruling allowing non-Ukrainian players to suspend their contracts due to war in the country.
The ruling introduced last year, suspending Solomon's contract so he could join Fulham on a year-long deal, has left the Ukrainian club furious. Shakhtar has contested that this ruling was unnecessary, as they were willing to sell their foreign assets and it has resulted in them losing transfer fees.
Solomon had only six months remaining on his contract with Shakhtar, scheduled to end in December. However, thanks to the extended FIFA ruling for an additional year, his contract now surpasses the original end date, enabling him to depart without any cost.
This summer, Tottenham will be organizing a charity match against Shakhtar. The profits from this event will be allocated to the Shakhtar Social charity foundation. Since the Russian invasion, this foundation has been assisting families throughout Ukraine by offering financial aid, humanitarian aid, and medical support.
Who else are Spurs targeting in the transfer market?
We News reporter Michael Bridge:Never say never to further additions but several players need to leave and that'll be the priority over the coming weeks.
Spurs have their sights set on defenders, with potential interest in Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen and Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg. Both players boast impressive speed and skill on the ball.
Furthermore, there is ongoing consideration for Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo. Although a permanent deal for Clement Lenglet's return from Barcelona at a nominal fee cannot be conclusively dismissed.
Tottenham must eliminate the unnecessary errors in their defense, which greatly contributed to their extremely disappointing eighth-place finish. It appears that the current focus is not on manager Ange Postecoglou seeking new players from his former club Celtic.
