Tiana's Journey Unveiled: Disney+ Gives Exciting Update on Long-Awaited Princess & The Frog Show!

Will Tiana's long-awaited development finally take a leap forward? Find out the latest progress on Disney+'s Princess & The Frog Show after a 3-year delay

Summary

After years of silence, the upcoming Disney+ show Tiana receives a promising update with a lead writer and director and a release target of 2024.

Tiana, inspired by the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog, has faced numerous setbacks and is now two years overdue from its initial release date. The anticipation for Tiana is particularly high as it marks Disney's first portrayal of a Black princess. However, viewers have been kept waiting as other Disney princess adaptations have been announced and made available to the public.

Disney+ show Tiana, based on the 2009 animated movie The Princess and the Frog, has finally received an update after being announced three years ago. The project was first announced at the end of 2020 and has since remained relatively quiet, with the latest major update occurring in 2021.

According to Variety, there is now a promising update for Tiana. The animated show has selected Joyce Sherri (known for her work on Midnight Mass) as the lead writer and director, with a targeted release date of 2024. Anika Noni Rose, the original voice actor for Tiana in The Princess and the Frog, is still on board to reprise her role in the show.

Will Tiana Finally Progress After The Delay?

Tiana's Journey Unveiled: Disney+ Gives Exciting Update on Long-Awaited Princess & The Frog Show!

This announcement represents the first major update for The Princess and the Frog show adaptation in two years. In 2021, a preview image showcased Tiana on a steamboat from the 1920s. Apart from this glimpse, there have been scant details regarding the plot of Tiana, except for its focus on the renowned princess's life.

With a director and lead writer now on board, the completion of Tiana appears more probable. However, the Disney+ show has encountered two release date delays, initially scheduled for 2022 and subsequently pushed to 2023. It is now slated for release in 2024, arriving two years after its original target and 15 years after the release of the Disney princess movie it is based on.

Despite the significant impact The Princess and the Frog had on the Disney canon by introducing the first Black Disney princess and marking the end of Disney's hand-drawn animation era, it is surprising that Tiana's development has taken so long. In the meantime, Disney has produced spinoffs of other animated films such as Cars on the Road and Zootopia+. Moreover, Disney has recently announced a live-action adaptation of Moana, which demonstrates their dedication to expanding various newer Disney princess storylines. It is hoped that Disney+ will fulfill the expectations for the frog-loving princess and release Tiana in a timely manner, preferably by 2024.
