The Original Power Rangers Continued To Operate As A Team After Once & Always
The first episode of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury has confirmed that the original Power Rangers, who joined forces to battle Robot Rita in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, continued their teamwork even after their rematch against Rita. Cosmic Fury takes place in the Power Rangers timeline after Once & Always, offering viewers the most up-to-date glimpse into the future of the Power Rangers. Billy Cranston, the original Blue Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, disclosed to the Dino Fury Rangers that his team was engaged in combat against Lord Zedd's army on Earth at the start of Cosmic Fury.
How Power Rangers Cosmic Fury Pays Homage To The Original Power Rangers
The lineup of Power Rangers that Billy was referring to remains unclear. Once & Always began with the classic Power Rangers, including characters like Jason and Zack who had previously left the team, fighting together against Rita. However, not all Power Rangers actors appeared in Once & Always, and most of the original characters only made brief appearances with their helmets on. However, it has been confirmed that Minh, Trini's daughter, briefly appears as the Mighty Morphin Yellow Ranger in Cosmic Fury, which takes place after Once & Always. Furthermore, the original Power Rangers and their Megazord also appear in the ending fight of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.
In Cosmic Fury, David Yost was the sole original Power Rangers actor to make a comeback. However, the newest Power Rangers series paid homage to the first TV show in several ways. Billy's return brought the Power Rangers journey full circle, with one of the initial five Rangers assuming the role of mentor to a new generation of heroes. Furthermore, Billy piloted the Cosmic Wolf Megazord, a subtle nod to his previous Zord, the Ninja Wolf, from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Additionally, Zordon, the Power Rangers' mentor who was thought to have perished in Power Rangers in Space, resurfaced in Cosmic Fury.
In addition, Lord Zedd, a prominent antagonist from the classic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, played a significant role in Cosmic Fury. Interestingly, Lord Zedd's defeat harkened back to the original show, as his worst nightmare involved marrying Rita Repulsa once again. Although the original Power Rangers team had a limited onscreen presence during Cosmic Fury's final battle, their involvement was nonetheless acknowledged. While the new Yellow Ranger did not have any lines, the show confirmed Minh's continued presence within the team. If Power Rangers Cosmic Fury signifies the conclusion of the current chronology, it serves as a substantial farewell to the beloved original Power Rangers universe.
