According to an insider who spoke to We, the divorce between pro golfer Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll did not come as a surprise to everyone.
One of the issues in Rory and Erica's marriage was that Erica often felt lonely. A source mentioned to Us that Rory could be a challenging person to be married to.
McIlroy, 35, recently filed for divorce from his wife Stoll after seven years of marriage. They tied the knot in April 2017 and have a daughter together named Poppy, who is 3 years old.
According to an insider, becoming parents shifted Stoll's priorities, especially in terms of accompanying McIlroy on his tours. Despite knowing the demands of his profession, Stoll's focus shifted towards their daughter Poppy, leading her to be mostly absent during his tournaments.
Ultimately, according to a source, McIlroy and Still had been leading very different lives over the past two years due to his constant traveling. This eventually led to a breaking point for Still.
The athlete finally addressed the split on Tuesday, May 14, one day after the news broke. A spokeswoman for McIlroy confirmed that a divorce has been filed and emphasized his wish for a respectful and amicable process during this difficult time. McIlroy's team also stated that he will not be making any additional comments on the matter.

Stoll and McIlroy first met in 2012 at the Ryder Cup when McIlroy was in a relationship with tennis player Caroline Wozniacki. They were together for three years before McIlroy ended their engagement in 2014. Shortly after, he began dating Stoll.
According to a source close to Wozniacki, 33, she expressed that she has no interest in being involved in any drama related to McIlroy.
Caroline had enough of men after Rory. She desired a peaceful family life, which Rory could not provide. The source revealed that he was not the type for a quiet family life.
After the divorce, Rory chose to focus on golf and did not address the split during the PGA Championship.
"During a press conference on Sunday, May 12, McIlroy expressed that spending four or five hours a day on the golf course is a great way to escape from the outside world. He mentioned that he is able to separate different aspects of his life effectively, and interestingly, he tends to perform well in golf when he is preoccupied with other matters."
"Unfortunately, McIlroy suffered a significant defeat to Xander Schauffele on Sunday, May 19."

The divorce between Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll has been a topic of much discussion in the media. While the reasons for the split are not fully known, it is clear that there were a number of factors that contributed to the breakdown of their marriage. One of the most significant issues was Erica's loneliness. As a professional golfer, Rory spent a great deal of time away from home, and Erica often felt isolated and alone. This led to a growing distance between them, and ultimately, to their divorce.
Another factor that contributed to the divorce was Rory's demanding career. As one of the top golfers in the world, Rory was constantly traveling and competing in tournaments. This left little time for him to spend with his family, and Erica began to feel neglected. She eventually made the decision to focus on her own life and her daughter, and the couple grew apart.
