Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon episode 4!
Summary
Codron's inability to forgive or accept Daryl's actions, who murdered his brother, makes it impossible for them to ever be friends. As a result, Codron's vengeful pursuit of Daryl has become even more intense, fueled by Genet's backing in their shared objective of eliminating Daryl, who ruined crucial research.
The potential for Codron to abandon his pursuit of Daryl arises if he comes to the realization of the monstrous persona he would embody by killing Laurent for Genet. This revelation could lead to him potentially saving the child and consequently altering his alliances.
Romain Levi, the star of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, has provided insights into why his character, Codron, can never establish a friendship with Daryl. In the inaugural episode of the spinoff series, Daryl eliminates Codron's sibling, resulting in the Pouvoir Guerrier relentlessly pursuing vengeance against Daryl. The two have engaged in combat on two separate occasions, with Daryl successfully evading Codron's clutches or gaining the upper hand.
Speaking with Collider, Levi explained that due to Daryl's actions in killing Codron's brother, it is unlikely that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will show the two characters becoming allies. Levi described the difficulty Codron would face in forgiving Daryl, as his brother played a significant role in shaping his identity. Levi shared the following remarks:
The relationship between Daryl and his brother creates a challenging dynamic for Codron, making it difficult for forgiveness and respect to be extended. Forgiveness often involves accepting the events that transpired, but Codron struggles to come to terms with the situation. His brother was an integral part of himself, and Codron is forever changed following his loss. Given the close bond they shared, it is uncertain whether Codron's brother would approve of a friendship with Daryl. Therefore, determining whether Codron can or cannot be friends with Daryl is far from simple in this particular circumstance.
What Will Happen Between Daryl & Codron?
Codron's thirst for revenge against Daryl has intensified throughout the series, leading him to seek assistance from Genet, the leader of the Pouvoir. Codron's desire to kill Daryl is fueled by Genet's personal vendetta, as Daryl destroyed valuable research on one of the Pouvoir's ships prior to the series.
In the latest installment of The Walking Dead, Codron's allegiance lies with a new faction that shares his ultimate goal of eliminating Daryl Dixon. Consequently, even if his loyalties were to shift, Codron remains obligated to carry out Daryl's death. Additionally, Genet may assign him the task of killing Laurent, as the boy's optimism poses a threat to the Union of Hope. Successfully executing this mission would only deepen the rift between Codron and Daryl.
Genet's plot to assassinate Laurent might cause Codron to reconsider his pursuit of Daryl as well. In The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon trailer, there is a hint that Codron will aim his gun at Laurent, but it remains uncertain if he intends to end the boy's life. It is conceivable that Codron will come to the realization of the monstrous person he would become by murdering a child, subsequently choosing to abandon his quest for vengeance against Daryl – not solely for his own sake, but for Laurent's. However, as Daryl and Laurent manage to flee Paris in episode 4, the outcome becomes uncertain as season 1 reaches its climactic point.
