The Impact of Warrior Nun's Cancellation
S3's plans gave a perfect ending to their story. Ava and Beatrice's relationship was at the front and center of Warrior Nun seasons 1 and 2, and the reveals about where season 3 would have taken them make the fantasy drama's cancellation sting even more. The campaign spearheaded by the show's fanbase to bring back Warrior Nun right after its cancellation in December 2022 proved eventually fruitful after executive producer Dean English confirmed Warrior Nun's return as a trilogy of films in August 2023. However, the absence of many of the creatives who took part in making Netflix's Warrior Nun, including its showrunner Simon Barry, all hint at the Warrior Nun movie trilogy potentially differing greatly from the show.

Warrior Nun seasons 1 and 2 easily established Ava and Beatrice's bond as fundamental to the story. Indeed, through their friendship Ava truly became part of the Order of the Cruciform Sword, turning into someone willing to sacrifice herself to save her friends after Warrior Nun season 1 introduced her as someone selfish. However, their stint in the Alps in Warrior Nun season 2 only made their lingering romantic feelings bigger for the two, and their love declaration in the Warrior Nun season 2 ending promised an intense season 3 for Ava and Beatrice, as whenever they found each other again they would have had to deal with its aftermath.

Warrior Nun's cancellation sounds even worse knowing what was in store for Ava and Beatrice's future in season 3. In an interview with The OCS Newsletter, showrunner Simon Barry revealed the biggest things Warrior Nun season 3 would have included, and while the developments involved various characters, the most consequential focused on Ava and Beatrice and their relationship. Indeed, Barry's revelation of Ava turning into a villain-like character due to her time in Reya's other dimension in Warrior Nun season 3 could have been risky, but it also guaranteed Beatrice's return, as she was often the only one able to set Ava on the right path.

The Unresolved Storyline and Its Impact
Ava's turn to the dark side due to Reya's influence not only would have put her in a position of being saved by Beatrice, but it also could have made their reunion one of their angstiest moments, as they would have been on opposite sides. As Warrior Nun season 2 ended with their love declaration to each other, they couldn't have hidden their feelings, and that would have contributed to how loaded their reunion would have been. Barry's reveal that Ava and Beatrice's relationship in Warrior Nun season 3 would have been "emotional, psych, and loving" makes the show's cancellation even worse, as such a plan would have done Ava and Beatrice's bond justice.

Not much is known about what the upcoming Warrior Nun trilogy will tackle story-wise, but the absence of various Warrior Nun creatives from its plans leads many to believe it unlikely that the writers' ideas for Warrior Nun season 3 will see the light of day in the movies. This makes the fitting conclusion for Ava and Beatrice's story that Barry teased particularly unlikely, leaving their story completely without an end if the Warrior Nun movie trilogy were to reboot the series or focus on other characters. Such an outcome would destroy part of the show's essence and be abhorred by the fans whose commitment effectively saved Warrior Nun.

A New Hope for Ava and Beatrice's Story
While the fear that the Warrior Nun movie trilogy won't finish Ava's story as known in the Netflix TV show seems substantiated by what little is known about it, the new project can still atone for not resolving their storyline. The trilogy's existence effectively secures that the world introduced by Warrior Nun will live on, and if its essence might be retained as Barry hopes, what Warrior Nun introduced with Ava, Beatrice, and the other Warrior Sisters in the TV show could still be embodied by the trilogy's stories even with the introduction of new characters or an original story.

A story in Warrior Nun's world could make the film trilogy provide an ending to Ava and Beatrice's story via tales remembered by the OCS's future recruits. Such a gimmick could still give Warrior Nun fans closure, by letting them know how important Ava and Beatrice might have been in the holy war supposedly coming after Warrior Nun season 2, and how they had their happily ever after together, away from the OCS. While this would be a meager achievement compared to what Warrior Nun season 3 aimed to achieve, it would still conclude Ava and Beatrice's story without weighing too much on the new story introduced by the trilogy.
