Summary

Peridea serves as the final resting place for the purrgil, acting as a burial ground for these enormous creatures. The planet is encircled by the scattered remnants of the purrgil, forming a ring of debris. The Nightsisters are unable to ride with the purrgil because they journey to Peridea to meet their demise.

However, contradicting the notion of the purrgil's one-way voyage, Morgan Elsbeth mentions the ancestral Perideans who once rode the purrgil to the primary galaxy of Star Wars in the past. Over time, their migratory paths may have evolved. It is also plausible that changes in the environment or the exhaustion of Clouzon-36, a gas necessary for purrgil's hyperspace travel, played a role in Peridea becoming a final resting place.

The Star Wars universe features captivating creatures known as the purrgil, which play a significant role in the larger narrative. The Ahsoka series further emphasizes their importance, adding layers to their mythology. New episodes of Ahsoka can be watched on Disney+ every Tuesday at 6pm PT / 9pm ET.

In the Ahsoka series, Grand Admiral Thrawn and the remaining Peridean Nightsisters are unable to return to the main galaxy of Star Wars without the assistance of Morgan Elsbeth. However, there is a disturbing reason behind this reliance. Ahsoka has forever changed the Star Wars saga by introducing a second galaxy, through which the heroes embark on a journey to Peridea. Traveling between these two galaxies is no simple task. Morgan Elsbeth has been compelled to construct a massive hyperspace ring to facilitate the journey, while Ahsoka Tano and Huyang have hitched a ride on the majestic purrgil, the space whales of the Star Wars universe.

Morgan Elsbeth has answered a call from three Nightsisters of Dathomir who are collaborating with Grand Admiral Thrawn and has traveled to Peridea. However, unlike Ahsoka and Ezra, who have used the purrgil to transport themselves, Thrawn, his troops, and young Jedi Ezra Bridger were successfully brought to Peridea by the purrgil following the battle for Lothal in the final installment of Star Wars Rebels. The Nightsisters, who possess their own unique abilities in harnessing the Force, could have chosen the same mode of transportation, but for reasons unknown, they did not opt to do so.

Peridea Is Where Purrgil Go To Die

Was Peridea Always A Purrgil Graveyard?

In "Far, Far Away," the sixth episode of Ahsoka, it becomes evident that Peridea serves as the ultimate destination for the purrgil. According to Baylan Skoll, Peridea is where these majestic creatures come to meet their demise, turning the planet into a colossal graveyard for them. This revelation affirms the stories of the Jedi Order that were ingrained in him during his childhood. The vast expanse of space surrounding Peridea is now tainted with the scattered remnants of the purrgil, forming a massive ring of debris encircling the planet. Considering that Peridea marks the conclusion of the purrgil's final journeys, it is logical to deduce why the Nightsisters were never able to escape with them and were compelled to seek alternative means.

Contradicting the notion that the path to Peridea had always been a one-way journey for the purrgil, Ahsoka episode 6 introduces Morgan Elsbeth, a descendant of the Nightsisters. She mentions her Peridean ancestors who rode the purrgil to travel to Star Wars' primary galaxy in ancient times, before time was recorded. Presumably, they settled on Dathomir. This raises questions about when Peridea became a purrgil graveyard. It is possible that the migration routes of the purrgil have simply altered over the millennia since the Peridean Nightsisters traversed to another galaxy. Conceivably, the secondary galaxy in the Star Wars universe could be the original birthplace of these creatures, and they opt to perish there by choice. Alternatively, it is plausible that a specific environmental change played a significant role, presenting another possible explanation.

In Star Wars Rebels, it was established that the purrgil rely on Clouzon-36 gas for hyperspace travel, which is also used by all hyperspace-capable spaceships in the Star Wars universe. Prior to "refueling", the purrgil appear in a dull gray shade, but transform into a vibrant purple with yellow accents afterwards. Interestingly, the live-action purrgil in Ahsoka remain gray, even as they journey towards Peridea according to Ahsoka's hopes. It is possible that the secondary galaxy in the Star Wars universe has depleted its supply of Clouzon-36 or similar hyperspace fuels, leaving the purrgil stranded after their long hyperspace journey. Despite the circumstances, the purrgil have always captivated Star Wars fans, and their role in the Ahsoka show only further emphasizes their significance to the overall storyline.
