One player in Starfield found themselves married to both Sarah and Andreja, sparking a debate on whether it's a feature or a bug.

In Bethesda's Starfield, players have access to a limited selection of romance options. However, one player successfully complicated their love life by engaging in an affair and resolving the situation through a simple persuasion check.

The unintended possibility of having multiple spouses has caused some confusion among players, who are unsure whether this is a bug or an intentional feature.

One Starfield player was shocked to discover they were married to both Sarah and Andreja simultaneously during their space adventures. They later took to the internet to share their unique situation, adding to the growing collection of extraordinary Starfield encounters that fans have been sharing throughout September.

While both The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and Fallout 4 offered limited romance choices, Bethesda's RPGs have generally avoided making romantic relationships a significant aspect of gameplay. The game studio has consistently stated that its upcoming release, Starfield, will also follow this pattern, as it has been confirmed that the game will include only four romance options prior to its official launch.

Despite the limited options for potential partners, Reddit user SKobiBeef managed to complicate their in-game romantic life to the point of simultaneously being married to both Sarah and Andreja. Reflecting on their unfaithful actions, the fan admitted to having an affair with Sarah after already being married to Andreja. This led the game to instruct them to speak with their spouse. Surprisingly, a successful "persuasion check" was all it took to reconcile with their original spouse without affecting their romance with Sarah Morgan in the game Starfield.

The player expressed their confusion, stating, "Now I have two wives." They questioned whether this love triangle they found themselves in was an intentional feature or an unintended bug. While other fans shared similar experiences of unexpected polygamy, the post received numerous surprised reactions. Some people speculated that the developers did not intend for players to have multiple spouses simultaneously, suggesting this unusual situation was indeed a result of a bug.

Bethesda's implementation of romances in Starfield closely resembles that of Fallout 4. The protagonist's ability to build relationships with specific companions is directly tied to their affinity rating with those NPCs. Flirting options appear during dialogue, but consistent flirting does not guarantee romance if the love interest frequently disapproves of the protagonist's actions, resulting in a consistently low affinity rating.

The main difference between the two games is that Fallout 4 lacks a marriage option, although it supports multiple relationships. On the other hand, Starfield seems to attempt the opposite approach. Companions in Starfield, with a high enough affinity score, eventually give players the option to get married or remain friends. However, choosing to get married usually does not lead to an actual marriage if the protagonist already has a spouse. In fact, the game even includes unique dialogue for rejecting a proposal in these situations. The cause of this peculiar bug, which sometimes prevents marriage despite choosing the option, remains unclear.

Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
