Pam is Thirsty: A Walkthrough Guide for Stardew Valley
How to Complete the 'Pam is Thirsty' Quest
Embark on the quest 'Pam is Thirsty' in Stardew Valley during your first year of residency. Meet Pam, an NPC who used to be the reliable bus driver in Pelican Town before the unfortunate breakdown. Known for her fondness of Pale Ale and other alcoholic beverages, Pam can often be found enjoying her time at Gus' Stardrop Saloon. Follow this comprehensive guide to navigate through the steps and successfully complete the 'Pam is Thirsty' story quest in Stardew Valley.
On Summer 14 of Year 1, players find a letter from Pam in their mailbox. In the letter, Pam expresses her thirst and desire for a bottle of Pale Ale, which is a unique drink made with Hops instead of Wheat. To create Pale Ale, players will need two essential items: Hops and a Keg.
The Quest is noted in the player's Journal and can be undertaken whenever they feel ready. Story Quests do not have any specific time constraint or consequences if players choose to delete them from the journal without finishing them.
Growing Hops
Hops are a type of vegetable crop that can only be grown in the Summer season. To cultivate Hops, players must plant a Hops Starter. These starters can be purchased at Pierre's General Store for 60 g, at JojaMart for 75 g, and occasionally from the Traveling Cart for 100–1,000 g. Alternatively, players can also find Hops Starters at the Night Market on Winter 16 for 60 g.
Once planted, it takes 11 days for a Hops Starter to grow into a fully matured plant, which then produces Hops. The Hops plants have a quick regrowth rate of just 1 day after they are harvested. This makes them a wise investment for the Summer season.
In Stardew Valley, Players or animals will not be able to walk through the Hops at any of their growth stages, due to their wooden trellis.
Crafting Kegs
Kegs, a vital type of Artisan Equipment, are indispensable for producing Artisan Goods like Pale Ale. Players unlock the crafting recipe for Kegs once they achieve Farming Level 8. The necessary ingredients for crafting Kegs are as follows:
30 Wood
1 Copper Bar
1 Iron Bar
1 Oak Resin
If players fail to reach Farming Level 8 by the end of Summer, it is recommended for them to save some Hops so they can brew Pale Ale and give it to Pam later in the game.
Once players have gathered all the necessary items, they can easily craft a Keg. To do this, players must press the 'E' key to access the Main Menu and then go to the Crafting section (indicated by a hammer icon). The Keg will be visibly indicated if players possess the required ingredients. By simply clicking on it, a Keg will be created. These can be used to brew various types of beverages.
Players are rewarded with a Keg for completing the Artisan Bundle or the remixed Brewer’s Bundle in the Pantry of the Community Center.
Making Pale Ale
Pale Ale, a delightful Artisan Good, is crafted by fermenting Hops in a Keg. It takes around 2,250 in-game minutes (approximately 1-2 in-game days) to complete the transformation into the beloved Pale Ale. By simply hitting the hay and saving the game, players can wake up to a fresh batch of this exquisite beverage.
Pale Ale, a coveted Artisan Good, is an exceptionally lucrative item that commands a base sell price of 300 g.
Aging Pale Ale involves entrusting it to a Cask, where it undergoes a remarkable transformation from its initial normal quality to silver, gold, and ultimately reaching the prestigious iridium quality. Notably, Pale Ale of iridium quality fetches a staggering price of 600 g, precisely twice its base sell price.
For players who are not too keen on making Pale Ale from scratch, it is available for purchase at the Ginger Island Resort for 1,000 g.
Giving the Pale Ale to Pam
To complete the 'Pam is Thirsty' quest, the final step is to deliver the brewed Pale Ale to Pam. Retrieve the Pale Ale from the Keg and find Pam either at the Trailer with her daughter, Penny, or at The Stardrop Saloon in the evenings. If the Bus service is restored, Pam can usually be found at the bus stop between 10 AM and 5 PM.
Handing over the Pale Ale to Pam marks the completion of the 'Pam is Thirsty' quest. Like any other quest in Stardew Valley, players are rewarded with 350 g and 255 Friendship Points, which is equivalent to 1 Friendship Heart.
Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
