Fans of the popular Bleach anime series can rejoice as the show returns after an eight-year hiatus, bringing with it new characters and their unique abilities. The Thousand Year Blood War arc introduces the powerful Quincy race, with many belonging to the Sternritter group. Known as the strongest among all the Quincy, they are granted special titles based on their leader Yhwach's bestowed powers. Their primary objective is to eliminate all Shinigami from the soul society, which they achieve through their extraordinary abilities and bankai-stealing medallions. Additionally, they possess Vollständig forms, which provide a significant advantage in battle. The series features some of the most robust members of this clan.
Bleach boasts a wide array of characters, but the Quincies truly stand out. Despite being on the brink of extinction, their recent uprising has sparked increased interest among fans. They are now some of the most powerful characters in the series, able to easily overpower Death Reapers and even steal their bankai. In this article, we'll take a closer look at some of the most formidable members of the Quincy clan, their impressive abilities, and the significant impact they have had on the world of Bleach and the series' overarching conflict.
15 Quilge Opie
Quilge possesses an authoritarian persona and exhibits zero tolerance towards those who challenge him in battle. Bestowed upon him by Ywach, he bears the schrift of the letter J, representing "The Jail." This grants him the ability to create Reishi cages that are virtually inescapable once caught within. Additionally, he can form constructs capable of shutting down portals and gateways linking various dimensions.
The individual who is trapped inside the cage is completely cut off from the outside world, including their presence and reiatsu. The cage itself is incredibly strong and nearly impenetrable, and it will remain intact even after Quilge's death. Its strength is so great that not even a point-blank bankai Getsuga Tensho from Ichigo was able to make it budge.
14 Bambietta Basterbine
Bambietta revels in sadism, finding pleasure in the tortured screams of her enemies. She refuses to engage in battle with those who have already given up, as it would not provide the same level of satisfaction as bringing them to the brink of despair. She wields the schrift E, known as "The Explode," which grants her the power to generate reishi that transforms anything it touches into explosive bombs.
She possesses the ability to generate a massive explosion in her immediate surroundings, capable of devastating the environment. Additionally, her schrift ability is amplified when she enters Vollstandig mode, allowing her to produce a single bomb explosion with enough power to inflict harm upon even Shinji Hirako.
13 Meninas McAllon
Meninas possesses an astounding amount of strength, thanks to the schrift P bestowed upon her, famously known as “The Power”. She has showcased her exceptional physical prowess by easily overpowering Ichigo, albeit for a brief time, as well as lifting entire buildings, breaking through barriers effortlessly, and delivering devastating blows during battles.
She not only has incredible raw strength, but also possesses enhanced durability that allows her to withstand powerful attacks and injuries that could easily take down weaker opponents. This makes her an incredibly formidable adversary on the battlefield. Additionally, she has the ability to increase her muscle mass to an even greater extent, creating a truly awe-inspiring effect.
12 Giselle Gewelle
Giselle's demeanor outside of battle is quite playful and goofy, but when it comes to combat, her personality undergoes a drastic shift and she becomes cruel and sadistic, despite her denial of such behavior. With her schrift Z, known as "The Zombie," she can manipulate the bodies of those whose blood she has come into contact with. This power enables her to issue commands to her victims, as demonstrated when she utilized several Death Reapers to attack one another during the Sternritters' invasion of Soul Society.
The quantity of blood needed for healing varies based on the reiatsu level of the individual in need. Additionally, she possesses the ability to restore the bodies of both herself and her allies by utilizing the flesh of the deceased. This includes the ability to replace missing limbs as well.
11 Gremmy Thoumeaux
Gremmy is a highly conceited Sternritter who holds the belief that he is superior to all others in his group. This attitude stems from his immense confidence in his own abilities. With his shrift V, "The Visionary," he can transform his thoughts into reality, making it possible for him to create and control anything he can imagine.
His ability to shape reality is unmatched, allowing him to effortlessly manifest objects, manipulate his surroundings, and conjure powerful weapons at will. He possesses the unique ability to clone himself and even create sentient life, showcasing the true extent of his power. His strength is evident in the fact that he can keep up with the formidable Kenpachi Zaraki, a feat that few others can claim.
10 Bazz-B
Bazz-B, known as "The Heat," possesses formidable abilities related to powerful flames that can overpower even the strongest opponents. His fire proved strong enough to counter that of Captain-Commander Yamamoto Genryusai, although he was still visibly affected. Additionally, Bazz-B was able to overpower the combined force of two captain-level shinigami, Rangiku Matsumoto and Tōshirō Hitsugaya, despite the latter having lost his bankai.
He possesses a diverse set of skills, primarily revolving around fire manipulation, and correlated to the number of fingers he utilizes. These abilities offer a significant degree of practicality and typically amplify in potency as he employs more fingers.
9 Äs Nödt
Äs Nödt's moniker, "The Fear," not only reflects the nature of his powers but also the constant emotional turmoil he faced before aligning with Yhwach. Through his spirit weapon, he can manipulate thorns and instill a deadly level of fear in his adversaries upon physical contact.
During his initial attack on the soul society, he managed to steal Captain Byakuya Kuchiki's bankai and used the thorns of his spirit weapon to instill fear in him. This psychological warfare allowed him to overpower the captain, both physically and mentally. However, in the second invasion, he faced Rukia Kuchiki, whose bankai and ice abilities proved to be too much for him to handle, resulting in her emerging as the victorious one.
8 Royd Lloyd
Royd, also known as "The Yourself," possesses a unique ability to flawlessly replicate the appearance, personality, and memories of other beings. This special power allowed him to take on the identity of Quincy King Yhwach during the first invasion of the soul society, making him a formidable opponent.
Despite only being capable of replicating appearances, Royd effortlessly overpowered and defeated Kenpachi Zaraki, the 11th Division Captain who was considered one of the strongest shinigami as part of the Special War Powers. As a result, he was able to hold his own against Yamamoto Genryusai, weakening him enough for the arrival of the real Yhwach who then dispatched the Captain-Commander.
7 Pernida Parnkgjas
Known as "The Compulsory," Pernida is actually the left hand of the Soul King and one of only two entities with unique abilities prior to joining the quincy. As a member of the Sternritter's elite Schutzstaffel, it serves as one of Yhwach's most formidable officers.
Using its unique ability, Pernida can effortlessly control any form of matter, be it organic or inorganic, by simply extending its nerves towards the target. This power proved to be a formidable challenge for both Kenpachi Zaraki, who was forced to rip off his own arm, and 12th Division Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi, who found himself backed into a corner. If not for Mayuri's unpredictable abilities, Pernida would have posed an even greater threat.
6 Askin Nakk Le Vaar
Askin possesses a unique ability called "The Deathdealing," which enables him to control the lethal dosage of any substance or attack that he has previously been exposed to. This power can be utilized in several ways, such as providing him with a remarkable healing factor or rendering him impervious to typically potent assaults.
He displayed his prowess by successfully employing his deathdealing technique on powerful individuals like Ichigo Kurosaki and Yoruichi Shihouin, leaving them partially incapacitated. However, it took the combined forces of Yoruichi, Kisuke Urahara, and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez to ultimately overcome him.
5 Lille Barro
Despite his permanently closed left eye, Lille Barro possesses exceptional marksmanship skills, earning him the moniker "The X-Axis." His power enables him to hit any target within his rifle's line of sight with unparalleled accuracy, and it doesn't require any physical ammunition. Moreover, it's impervious to any form of defense, making him a formidable opponent.
He wields the authority of the Schutzstaffel and possesses immense power befitting of his position. In his battle against the newly appointed Captain-Commander, Shunsui Kyōraku, he demonstrated exceptional skill by seamlessly combining his various strengths to inflict serious damage on the Gotei 13 leader. Despite this, his plans were foiled when Nanao Ise intervened, leading to his partial defeat. In response, he resorted to cloning himself and scattering his clones throughout the vicinity.
4 Uryu Ishida
Uryū Ishida is a well-known quincy among Bleach enthusiasts. His character underwent several transformations throughout the series, but his most significant change came after he joined the ranks of the Sternritter. As one of Yhwach’s subordinates, Uryū became a member of the Schutzstaffel and was bestowed with the title of “Antithesis.”
Uryū was already a formidable ally of Ichigo, wielding his own spirit weapon and fighting alongside him in challenging battles. However, his new powers elevated his abilities to a whole new level. As the successor to the Antithesis, Uryū can swap the conditions of two chosen targets, a skill that enabled him to briefly overpower grandmaster Jugram Haschwalth.
3 Gerard Valkyrie
Gerard, like Pernida Parnkgjas, possesses powers that existed before his association with the quincy. He is known as "The Miracle" and is the heart of the Soul King. This unique ability empowers him to overcome seemingly impossible situations and manifest miracles that enhance his physical abilities.
2 Jugram Haschwalth
He fought against some of the strongest captains in the series for a significant period of time, relying on his unique ability to increase his size. Despite being overpowered by Kenpachi in his bankai form, he managed to activate his Vollständig and put up a remarkable fight against multiple captains. However, his recall by Yhwach marked the end of the confrontation.
As the Quincy's second-in-command, Haschwalth serves as Yhwach's trusted advisor and is often called the Sternritter Grandmaster. His unique title and ability, "The Balance," enables him to transfer misfortune among people in a particular region.
1 Yhwach
Moreover, Haschwalth becomes even more formidable when Yhwach is asleep, as he gains a fraction of his leader's power. His spirit weapon, Freund Schild, amplifies his abilities by absorbing any negative energy directed towards him and redirecting it towards his opponents. This unique power allowed him to successfully counter Uryū's Antithesis, only being defeated once Yhwach reclaimed his stolen power.
Yhwach, known as the Father of the Quincy, has existed for more than a millennium, possessing immense power. He has proven to be a formidable opponent, having defeated two of the Soul Society's strongest leaders, Yamamoto Genryusai and Ichibē Hyōsube. His most dominant ability, referred to as "The Almighty," is a reflection of his status.
Using his unique ability, he can see into the future and manipulate events to his advantage in the present. During the ultimate showdown with Ichigo, he repeatedly employs this skill to catch the unsuspecting hero off guard, even going so far as to shatter his newly acquired true bankai.
