Poor Tank play can lead to a lot of team suffering in Overwatch 2's 5v5 format, making heroes like Doomfist and Wrecking Ball frustrating for teammates.
Sombra, the DPS hero, is frequently regarded as one of the most frustrating characters in Overwatch 2. Although adept players can harness their potential, at lower skill levels, these heroes tend to create more challenges for their own team rather than for the enemy.
Players in Overwatch 2 frequently discuss their least favorite heroes to have as teammates. Recently, the game has introduced new additions such as the Support hero Illari, PvE missions, the Flashpoint mode, and two new maps.
With Overwatch 2's transition from 6v6 to the controversial 5v5 format, it is now even more essential for each player to actively participate in team fights. A successful team composition consists of five heroes working together on both the frontline and backline to effectively confront the enemy team on various objectives, such as the payload, capture points, or the Push robot TS-1. However, some heroes introduced during the 6v6 era are intended to be played away from the team, utilizing flanking strategies or disrupting the enemy's backline. In Overwatch 2's 5v5 setup, the absence of these specific heroes on the frontline can lead to frustration among teammates.
A Reddit post by TudoBern23 sparked a discussion within the community about which hero picks from teammates make them want to leave matches. The top three results, as voted by players, were tanks: Doomfist and Wrecking Ball, along with the DPS hacker Sombra. These frustrations stem from the annoying behavior exhibited by teammates who choose these heroes. For example, Doomfist attempting to take on the entire enemy team alone while complaining about lack of support, Wrecking Ball constantly requesting healing, and Sombra taking too long to accomplish anything on the flanks.
It is not surprising that tanks dominate the conversation. If a support or DPS player is underperforming, the other support or DPS can compensate to some extent. However, since each team only has one tank, poor tank play can greatly impact the overall team performance. Doomfist, Wrecking Ball, and Sombra are heroes who often operate separately from their teammates, leading to frustration for their team as they face the entire enemy frontline while their tank or Sombra is searching for health packs or setting up flanks.
The three heroes, Doomfist, Sombra, and Wrecking Ball, can be extremely powerful in the right hands. However, in Quick Play or lower ranks, they often cause more trouble for teammates than for the opposing team. Fortunately, Blizzard has announced that Sombra will be receiving a complete rework. The rework will involve significant changes that will require Sombra to spend more time with her teammates on the frontlines rather than staying on the flanks for the entire match. This will also give the enemy team some relief.
Overwatch 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
