Introducing Favor Tokens - Enhancing Gameplay in Assassin's Creed MirageThe inclusion of Favor Tokens in the latest installment of Assassin's Creed Mirage heralds a groundbreaking approach for players to tap into the unique abilities of various factions like entertainers, mercenaries, and merchants. This innovative addition not only enriches the game's universe but also provides an array of supplementary gameplay possibilities.
Obtaining Favor Tokens is not difficult, as players can earn them by completing contracts or pickpocketing. However, players also have the option to complete the game without spending any tokens, which can present a greater challenge.
The transition from using traditional currency like Dirham to favor tokens may be seen as a major change for some players in comparison to previous Assassin's Creed games. On the other hand, others may enjoy the added intricacy and the unique currency system that resembles secret societies as seen in movies like John Wick.
Assassin's Creed Mirage reintroduces beloved features from the classic games, delighting fans. Among these is the option to hire groups of people to distract guards, a strategic move that grants players discounts from merchants. However, unlike previous iterations, Mirage introduces a new Favor Token system to access these benefits.
In the past, players simply paid a small amount of currency to enlist the help of groups. Now, they must first earn Favor Tokens to unlock the advantages these groups offer. While this change may seem unfamiliar and bothersome to some, others may appreciate the significant contribution it makes to the immersive world of AC Mirage.
Mirage's Favor Coins Are a Unique Spin on Classic AC Gameplay
Players can utilize Dirham currency to make purchases from vendors, but acquiring the assistance of different factions requires the collection of Favor Tokens. These tokens exist in three distinct forms: Scholar, Merchant, and Power Tokens. Scholar Tokens are employed to bribe entertainers for distracting guards or can be given to scholars during quests. Merchant Tokens offer players discounts at shops and can also be used for bribery in certain quests. Power Tokens are utilized to hire mercenaries, rebels, and guards for assistance in covert operations, or they can be used to decrease notoriety in Assassin's Creed Mirage.
Each token holds significant value and can be relatively easy to obtain. Players have the option of obtaining them by completing contracts or pickpocketing individuals on Baghdad's streets. While this may necessitate engagement with unfamiliar systems, players have the ability to progress through the game without spending any tokens if they so choose. However, this approach may prove to be exceptionally challenging, appealing only to the most daring of players.
The inclusion of these tokens presents a significant departure from previous Assassin's Creed games, which may not sit well with some players. Rather than relying on Dirham, players must possess tokens in order to utilize the abilities of these factions. This compels them to diligently acquire these tokens, even if they are relatively easy to obtain. Additionally, Dirham loses some of its value unless players are making purchases or saving for major expenditures. However, since items can be easily discovered through exploration, Dirham may prove to be of little use.
Simultaneously, the introduction of tokens greatly contributes to the worldbuilding aspect. It now feels as though the Hidden Ones function much like the characters in John Wick, with their own distinct currency that other factions readily accept. Furthermore, this incentivizes players to complete contracts instead of simply disregarding them entirely, and the occasional merchant discounts can prove useful.
While some long-time fans of the series may view the favor tokens as an unwanted and significant change, others may perceive them as an intriguing addition that should be implemented in future installments. Ultimately, the reception depends on how attached players were to the previous system and their interest in engaging with contracts. It is worth noting that earning these tokens is relatively simple, but certain players may understandably prefer to avoid the additional effort, especially if they have already been worn out by the expansive RPGs in the series.
Assassin's Creed Mirage can be played on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
