Imbued Sword Key Locations

The Four Belfries in the world of Elden Ring's Lands Between are peculiar landmarks. Situated on a hill, these belfries stand independently and reach great heights into the sky.

Each belfry possesses a waygate at its base, leading to unknown destinations. However, players cannot simply approach these gates and immediately travel through them. To gain access, Elden Ring players must first unlock the enigmatic seal of the Imp Statue that stands nearby, acting as a "guardian". Unfortunately, regular Stonesword Keys are ineffective on these unique statues, unlike with regular Imp Statues. Only Imbued Sword Keys are accepted. Here are the locations of all three Imbued Sword Keys.

Updated July 3rd, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter: Locating the Four Belfries in the vast open world of Elden Ring is already a noteworthy accomplishment, but the true test of dedication lies in discovering the Imbued Sword Keys associated with them and venturing through each waygate. Fortunately, the designation of this area is somewhat deceptive, as there are solely three waygates available, implying that only three keys need to be found. Thus, let us now delve into the precise locations of each of the three Imbued Sword Keys.

The area is known as Four Belfries, even though there are only three waygates available. Underneath the fourth Belfry, situated atop the hill, players will discover a chest. This chest holds one of the three Imbued Sword Keys that players need to collect. Interestingly, these keys are not specific to any particular waygate and can be used interchangeably. Once a key has been used, it cannot be reclaimed, though this fact is likely self-evident.

Each of the three waygates, interestingly enough, operates in a similar manner to Super Mario Odyssey's Warp Paintings. In other words, they transport players to specific sections of the game world, but only a limited portion of those sections. Hence, players would benefit from knowing the destination of each Belfry before utilizing one of their valuable Keys. Keeping this in mind, the following table provides a guide to where each waygate leads, starting with the one closest to the bottom of the hill and progressing upwards:

Name

Location

Where It Leads

Waygate #1

Bottom

This first waygate will transport players to one of the late-game areas of Elden Ring, the Crumbling Farum Azula. This gives players a glance at what they can expect as they progress through Elden Ring's storyline, as most players up to this point in the game have only seen castles and marshlands. Within this section of Crumbling Farum Azula, players can jump down a series of platforms to reach a chest containing the Pearldrake Talisman. However, outside of using parkour exploits or glitches, there's no way to access the rest of Crumbling Farum Azula from here.

Waygate #2

Middle

The second belfry waygate leads players back to the Chapel of Anticipation, the area where, in classic From Software fashion (not including the Armored Core games), players are pitted against essentially a mandatory death the Grafted Scion before Elden Ring truly begins. This waygate allows them to re-challenge The Grafted Scion to get the Ornamental Straight Sword and Golden Beast Crest Shield. Additionally, players can find a dead maiden for Varre's questline here as well as a few other key items, such as the Stormhawk Deenh Spirit Ashes and more, so there's plenty of worth in returning here.

Waygate #3

Top

The third and final waygate will put players in Nokron, the Eternal City, far beneath the earth. Here they can leap down onto a bridge-like structure to find the Mottled Necklace and fight a Lesser Crucible Knight. Like with the first waygate leading to Crumbling Farum Azula, players will not be able to access the rest of Nokron, Eternal City from here, however.

Location of the Three Imbued Sword Keys

Now that players know where each of the Four Belfries waygates goes, it's time to discuss the whereabouts of the three Imbued Sword Keys. Although finding the first Key is relatively simple, the remaining two can be found in areas predominantly associated with Sorcery. This correlation can be explained by the fact that both the Imps on the statues and the Imps in the Catacombs appear to be products of practical magic. In any case, let's explore the specific locations of each of the three Keys.

The first Imbued Sword Key can be easily found by players without much effort or travel. It is conveniently located right at the starting point of the search, within the Four Belfries in Liurnia of the Lakes. Among these Belfries, three possess a waygate at their base, while the fourth Belfry, situated atop a hill, harbors a chest instead. Deep within this chest lies the coveted first Imbued Sword Key.

Obtaining the second Imbued Sword Key requires a more intricate process. Players must first reach the Raya Lucaria Academy, gain entrance, and fully explore the area. Progressing to the Debate Parlor, where the Red Wolf of Radagon boss fight takes place, is essential. After defeating the boss, head out from the Debate Parlor Site of Grace to the courtyard and take the staircase on the left side.

In this area, there are numerous basic enemies and two Glinstone Sorcerers. However, players can easily bypass them by running past and jumping off the railing at the top of the stairs. Upon landing on the rooftops of Raya Lucaria, the Tarnished should locate a ladder going upwards after jumping off another railing directly ahead. Here, there are many Avianettes, also known as flying puppets, and a Twinsage sorcerer. Once players overcome these obstacles, they should jump off the right side of the building to access lower levels of the rooftops.

Continue progressing along the rooftops until the Tarnished encounters another Marionette enemy. Players can swiftly descend and eliminate the nearest Marionette before immediately leaping towards the right to reach another rooftop. Located at the far end of this elongated rooftop section, within a small gazebo-like area, lies a corpse holding the Imbued Sword Key. Although it may seem intricate, the process simplifies to following the sole path ahead until the Tarnished reaches its conclusion.

The final location of the Imbued Sword Key can be found in Caelid, an area of the game that many players feel apprehensive about venturing into. However, in order to obtain the Imbued Sword Key, players must navigate their way to a place known as Sellia, the Town of Sorcery. To reach this destination, players should consult their map and locate the expansive Rot-infested swamp situated in the middle of Caelid, which goes by the name Aeonia Swamp. In the northeastern corner of this swamp, players will discover a group of structures denoted on the map as Sellia.

Once players reach Selia and activate either the Sellia Under-Stair Site of Grace located on the western edge of town or the Sellia Backstreets Site of Grace on the far north end, they will encounter the braziers puzzle. To dispel the magical gates scattered throughout the town, players should seek out the tallest towers and ascend them while evading the relentless attacks from ghostly enemies. On top of these towers, there are braziers that need to be lit in order to unlock these areas for exploration and plundering. Inside one of these chests lies the coveted Imbued Sword Key. To locate it, make your way to the northernmost building in town, using the map as a guide, and then proceed to the building situated just southeast of it. Behind this building, an alcove can be found containing the chest with the Imbued Sword Key.

Elden Ring is now available for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
