Where To Find The Ring Of Oath in Elden RingHow To Get The Dark Moon Ring
The Ring of Oath in From Software's recent game Elden Ring is a vital item needed to complete Ranni's questline and access a blocked area. Many players have likely come across a barrier in the underground region called Lake of Rot after defeating Astel, Naturalborn of the Void. To pass through the fog, players must possess the Ring of Oath. However, the game does not actually have an item called the Ring of Oath. So, what is it really?
The Ring of Oath is actually the Dark Moon Ring, representing a solemn promise made by Lunar Princess Ranni. It is believed that the ring is meant to be given to Ranni's partner. Ranni initially seemed prepared to leave everything behind as she journeyed among the stars, but her connection with the Tarnished appears to have changed her perspective. Obtaining the Dark Moon Ring is also crucial for players who want to achieve the Age of Stars ending.
Updated August 3rd, 2023: If players are aiming to complete Ranni's Questline, they may encounter some confusion when tasked with finding the Ring of Oath. The Ring of Oath's location in Elden Ring can be rather perplexing, as players are initially required to defeat a somewhat elusive boss. To add further complexity, the Ring of Oath is actually referred to as the Dark Moon Ring once collected by players. In order to assist players in their search for the Ring of Oath, we have revised this guide and included a helpful video.
Where To Find The Ring Of Oath in Elden Ring
The Ring of Oath or Dark Moon Ring can be found within the Raya Lucaria Academy. More specifically, it is located in a chest within the Grand Library of Raya Lucaria, adjacent to the area where the boss fight against Rennala occurs. For those who have not yet reached the Site of Grace in the Raya Lucaria Grand Library, here is a guide on how to get there starting from the Red Wolf of Radagon, a boss that can be defeated in a single shot.
Go To The Large Staircase From The Debate Parlor Grace
Climbing The Grand Library Staircase
: Path to the Grand LibraryDeparting from the Debate Parlor Site of Grace, also known as the Red Wolf of Radagon boss' room, players will come across a vast winding staircase to their immediate right. This staircase serves as the gateway to the Grand Library. In order to access it, players must traverse along one of the stone supports attached to the staircase, leading them towards their destination.
To proceed, jump onto the platform in the middle, then carefully navigate over the railing and make your way up the stairs. Take caution as there is a sphere trap that moves and inflicts significant damage upon contact. Keep an eye out for a magically conjured boulder that consistently follows a specific path, bouncing between the two railings of the staircase. Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent its summoning, so players must memorize its pattern and swiftly pass by.
Getting Past Moongrum, The Carian Knight
Dodge the opponent and proceed down the hallway. Upon reaching a doorway on the right, players will come across a Waygate that serves as an alternative route to the Church of Vows. Continuing straight ahead through the hallway, players will encounter Moongrum the Carian Knight. This enemy can prove difficult to defeat due to his Carian Retaliation ability and his use of sorceries with his Glintstone Staff.
To overcome this challenge, players can opt for the intended route by carefully chipping away at Moongrum's health, while remaining cautious of his parries and taking advantage of the moments he switches weapons (which surprisingly works well in PvP). Alternatively, players can lure him onto the elevator and then kick him off for an easier kill. Upon reaching the top of the elevator, players will find the entrance to the Grand Library of Raya Lucaria where the chest is located.
How To Get The Dark Moon Ring
The Ring of Oath, also known as the Dark Moon Ring, can be located within a chest situated in the boss room of Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, within the Grand Library of Raya Lucaria Academy. This chest is accessible once the Shardbearer has been defeated. However, please note that the chest is initially locked, and the Discarded Palace Key needed to open it can only be obtained from Ranni in her Miniature form after defeating the Baleful Shadow.
Where To Get The Discarded Palace Key
Unlocking The Chest & Obtaining The Dark Moon Ring
After progressing through Ranni's questline to the point where she vanishes from Renna's Rise, leaving behind the Waygate, players are required to utilize it, acquire the Miniature Ranni, and engage in conversation with the doll three times at the nearest Site of Lost Grace. Subsequently, the Tarnished are bestowed with the responsibility of defeating the Baleful Shadow, which can be found in the deeper regions of the underground area.
After eliminating the shadow, Ranni expresses gratitude to the player and requests them to inform Iji and Blaidd of her affection towards them. As a token of appreciation, she presents the Tarnished with the Discarded Palace Key. Now, make your way back to the Grand Library and unlock the chest to acquire the Dark Moon Ring.
After defeating Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, proceed forward past the now open barrier and descend via the elevator to reach the Grand Cloister. It is important to note that access to this area is only granted to players who possess the Dark Moon Ring in their Inventory. Finally, make your way to the Moonlight Altar and present Ranni with the Dark Moon Ring. In return, you will receive the Dark Moon Greatsword, a formidable weapon from the Elden Ring, and unlock the Age of Stars Ending.
Elden Ring is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
