Fans are relieved and grateful to Square Enix for officially revealing the correct pronunciation of Cait Sith's name. In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Cait Sith will be a playable character in the party and will also offer Easter eggs and mini-games at the Gold Saucer.
Square Enix put an end to the debate over the pronunciation of Cait Sith's name in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on social media. By sharing a simple picture, the developers confirmed that in the upcoming game, Cait Sith's name is officially pronounced as "Kate Sihth." This revelation was well-received by Final Fantasy fans, who expressed gratitude to Square Enix for providing this confirmation.
Throughout all versions of Final Fantasy 7, Cait Sith, a puppet controlled by Shinra executive Reeve Tuesti, played a significant role. The feline companion worked both to assist Cloud and Avalanche and to act as a spy against Shinra. Since Final Fantasy 7 did not have voice acting at the time of its release and allowed players to rename party members, Cait Sith's name was never explicitly pronounced. As a result, gamers have debated for years about the proper pronunciation of the cat-like puppet's name, with some suggesting "Kite Shee" due to its Gaelic origins.
Square Enix revealed the pronunciation of the cat's name on social media, putting an end to the mystery. While "Kite Shee" was one option, Square Enix confirmed that the character would be addressed as "Kate Sihth" in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. During the September 2023 State of Play trailer, Cait Sith was confirmed as a playable party member and had their first lines of dialogue. In the trailer, Cloud encountered Cait Sith at the Gold Saucer and asked about Sephiroth's whereabouts, to which the puppet responded curiously.
The confirmation of Cait Sith's name pronunciation received mostly positive reactions on social media. Final Fantasy 7 players expressed relief that "Kate Sihth" had been chosen as the official pronunciation after years of debate. Along with meeting Cait Sith, players can expect the Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to offer numerous Easter eggs and mini-games for both newcomers and series veterans. It is unclear at this time how far players will need to progress in the game's story to recruit Cait Sith into their group.
Square Enix has reached a resolution regarding Cait Sith's name, but they still have to work on and finalize the story for the third part. As Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to release in a few months on February 29, 2024, for PS5, only time will reveal the outcome of the creative process.
