In Sons of the Forest, a survival horror game, players must survive on an island infested with cannibals. In addition to fighting enemies, players must also face the challenges of outdoor living. Tasks such as building shelter, finding food, and staying hydrated are crucial for survival in the forest. However, with the latest patch 03, players now have the ability to use functional light bulbs to illuminate their home bases.

Although most of the island is primitive, there are a few technological items scattered around for players to discover. From the start of the game, players have access to tools such as a GPS, Flashlight, and even a 3D Printer. Light bulbs are just one of the many modern features that make life in the forest more manageable. However, like in real life, players will need a source of electricity to power these bulbs. This guide will provide information on where to find light bulbs and how to utilize them effectively in Sons of the Forest.

In order to incorporate light bulbs into their creations, players will require a few additional materials: solar panels and wiring. These items cannot be crafted and must be obtained from specific locations where they naturally appear. Among the three, wires are the most frequently encountered and can be found at various campsites, cannibal camps, and crash sites.

Obtaining light bulbs and solar panels, however, proves to be more challenging as they are typically located in abandoned campsites, underground bunkers, or in proximity to 3D printers. To gather a substantial quantity of these items, players are advised to thoroughly search all the crates they encounter.

Having obtained all the necessary components, players are capable of constructing a shelter equipped with functional lighting. For optimal results, it is advisable to establish the base in close proximity to flowing water, ensuring a diminished presence of trees and bushes that adversaries may potentially exploit for concealment. Utilizing their building guide, players can initiate construction of a rudimentary cabin or engage in unrestricted building, thereby harnessing their own imaginative prowess.

The building guide also has instructions for how to set up the solar panel, wires, and light bulbs. To use a light bulb in Sons of the Forest, follow the below instructions:

Start by building an upright square frame using logs on the corner of the base shelter.

Fill in the frame using planks made by splitting logs. An arrow will appear where the planks can be dropped.

Place a solar panel across the planks. It will slot it automatically, and a wire will appear.

Grab wire from the inventory and run it along all the logs.

Finally, place light bulbs in their desired places on the wired logs.

Voila - now there’s electricity in Sons of the Forest.

Content: Light bulbs can be switched on and off, operating solely when connected to the wires and solar panel. Currently, the solar panels and wires serve no other purpose, but given the continuous updates in the game, this may change in the near future. While battery-powered items exist, the addition of solar panels opens up possibilities for the introduction of wind turbines and other sustainable energy sources.

Sons of the Forest is now available in early access for PC.
