Nintendo has announced that players of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can now download additional content for free. After a long period of development, Tears of the Kingdom has gained both critical and commercial success, proving that good things come to those who wait. This newest installment in the Legend of Zelda series builds upon the foundation established in Breath of the Wild by introducing a vast underground world, floating islands in the sky, and the return of dungeon-style levels.
One of the most exciting gameplay features for Zelda players is the introduction of a new mechanic called Ultrahand. Serving as a replacement for the Sheikah Slate, Ultrahand allows players to pick up items and objects, and then use Fuse to combine them together. This has led to players creating a variety of unique contraptions, such as vehicles, mechs, and devices to enhance gameplay. It has also enabled them to devise traps and torture devices to be used against the game's creatures and enemies. To encourage and support the creativity of the community, Nintendo has announced a new wave of free content.
From the Switch, players should navigate to the News section where a special announcement awaits avid followers of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Disguised as an in-game news update, players can acquire three downloadable items: an Octo Balloon, Zonai Rocket device, and a Travelers Shield. The accompanying description provides some exciting possibilities for these items, such as attaching the Balloon to the shield to enable slow floating, or connecting the rocket to the shield for a rapid ascent.
To redeem the items, players should select the News icon on the main dashboard. This will display the latest available stories. Scroll through the options until a Tears of the Kingdom specific story titled "Shields - perfectly designed for...flight?!" appears. Click on the story to open it and you will find an option to "Play Now," which will launch the game. When the save loads, Link will receive the three items, which are ideal for crossing gaps or reaching higher elevations.
The in-game creativity has not only impacted Tears of the Kingdom fans within the game but also those outside of it. Recently, Zelda enthusiasts have been making real-life versions of some of the Tears of the Kingdom recipes, such as Hylian Tomato Pizza and Wildberry Crepes. Players have been sharing pictures of the in-game versions alongside the actual food they prepared.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for Nintendo Switch.
