Highlights
Gen 10 of Pokemon games should introduce cross-gen evolutions to shake up the classic formula and give older critters new upgrades and potential.
In Gen 10, Pokémon such as Kricketune, Chatot, Spiritomb, Carnivine, and Drapion have the opportunity to evolve, which will enhance their abilities in battle and improve their design. Introducing new evolutions for these Pokémon can help address their weaknesses, enhance their type combinations, and ultimately make them more formidable opponents, thus creating thrilling gameplay possibilities in future games.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are gearing up to release their second DLC, The Indigo Disk, as their base games approach their one-year anniversary. While we may have to wait another two years for the next Pokemon mainline games, Gen 9 is already breaking the traditional Pokemon formula, setting the stage for Gen 10 to do the same. One exciting way to shake things up would be to introduce new cross-gen evolutions for older Pokemon.
Not all pocket monsters are created equal in terms of battle prowess, so some could benefit from upgrades in future games. Cross-gen evolutions have also been used in the past to complete evolutionary lines in terms of design and untapped potential. Examples include Kingambit and Gen 4's Budew and Roserade, which serve as the pre-evolution and evolution of Roselia respectively. Building on the success of Gen 4, the next mainline games should explore more opportunities for cross-gen evolutions.
Kricketune
A Pokemon that has garnered meme status in recent years because of its distinctive cry, which even the upcoming game Pokemon Legends: Arceus' Alpha Kricketune has acknowledged, is Kricketune. However, when it comes to battling prowess, this Bug-type Pokemon falls short. Bug type itself tends to be disadvantaged due to its weaknesses against several other types, and many of the stronger types can deal supereffective damage against it. Thus, introducing a Kricketune evolution with a different type combination could greatly enhance its capabilities. Additionally, Kricketune's base stat total (BST) is relatively low, but a potential evolution in Gen 10 could address this issue.
Chatot
If a new type were to be introduced in future generations of Pokemon games, it would be fitting for it to be associated with sound. This would serve as a perfect opportunity to enhance the character of Chatot, whose head resembles a musical note, and whose flavor texts highlight its skill in mimicking the sounds and cries of other pocket monsters. As Chatot evolves, its design could reach new heights, potentially altering its type combination and overall Base Stat Total (BST), resulting in a formidable adversary on the battlefield.
Spiritomb
Carnivine
Spiritomb, an elusive Pokémon that is considered one of the finest specimens from Generation 4, stands out not only for its rarity but also for its potential to evolve beyond its current region. With its formidable type combination, Spiritomb is already a force to be reckoned with, but imagine the sheer power it could unleash if it were to undergo a cross-generational evolution. This enigmatic creature has the capacity to become an unstoppable force on the battlefield, leaving players awe-struck.While Carnivine is not necessarily a weak Pokemon, it can sometimes give off an unfinished vibe that calls for further development. Its type and movepool may leave room for improvement, resulting in Carnivine being captivating in terms of its overall design and concept but often falling short in other aspects of the game. The upcoming Pokemon Gen 10 games have the potential to rectify this by granting Carnivine an evolution that expands upon the original's Venus flytrap themes even more effectively.
Drapion
Drapion possesses an exceptional type combination of Poison and Dark, resulting in only one vulnerability to Ground, four resistances, and one immunity. The potential introduction of an evolution in the upcoming Gen 10 games has the potential to further enhance Drapion's abilities. With its already respectable stats and moveset, Drapion could become a formidable force within the Pokemon world. Additionally, it is worth noting that Drapion holds a significant role as the ace Pokemon of Sinnoh's Elite Four member, Aaron, making it a strong contender to make a reappearance in future Pokemon games alongside its evolved form, potentially joining the team of the corresponding region's Elite Four.
