Highlights
Mortal Kombat 1 will feature three guest characters from comic books as part of its first season of DLC, a departure from previous games.
Fans are already discussing the potential addition of new characters in upcoming DLC, with suggestions including Doomslayer and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Although characters like John Wick and Deadpool may not be feasible due to licensing constraints, there are still numerous thrilling options for guest characters to be included in the game.
Mortal Kombat 1 is set to launch next month, with its first season of DLC characters already announced. Confirming rumors, the game will feature Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander, along with Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda Takahashi from previous installments. While previous Mortal Kombat games have included guest characters, the simultaneous unveiling of three in Mortal Kombat 1 is unprecedented. Fans are already speculating about future guest characters, even before the release of the first Kombat Pack.
The choice of comic book characters for Kombat Pack 1 may be influenced by their recent popularity. Mortal Kombat 11 featured action movie characters as guests, while Mortal Kombat X included horror movie icons. It would make sense for the latest title to have its own theme. While there are many fitting comic book characters that could be included, some fans have suggested branching out from this trend, which also seems appealing.
Doomslayer
Ash Williams
Doomslayer, the legendary silent hero of Doom, is undoubtedly one of the most frequently mentioned names when it comes to future DLC fighters. His seamless integration with the brutality of Mortal Kombat is a perfect match. With his extensive experience battling interdimensional demons, it is no surprise that rumors have already started circulating about his potential inclusion as the second DLC character in Mortal Kombat 11.
Ash Williams, the charismatic protagonist from the successful Evil Dead series, is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after guest characters for Mortal Kombat. With a long-established reputation for combating supernatural entities like the Deadites, it is evident why Bruce Campbell's iconic portrayal was already on the verge of joining Mortal Kombat 11.
John Wick/Neo
Pyramid Head
Despite the frequent requests for the inclusion of both versions of Keanu Reeves as separate characters in Mortal Kombat, it is unlikely to happen due to Reeves expressing his explicit desire for both John Wick and Neo to stay away from the fight. Their expertise in martial arts and shooting would have matched the tone of the series, but unfortunately, their involvement remains improbable.A prominent figure in the realm of horror and video games, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2 embodies sheer terror. This iconic character, regarded as a staple in the genre, has long been anticipated by fans for his inclusion. Now, with the imminent release of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, we are presented with a perfect opportunity to encounter this spine-chilling entity within a world as vicious as its own desires.
Deadpool
While it may be a challenge to navigate the licensing issues surrounding the use of a Marvel character in a Warner Bros. product, the addition of Wade Wilson's brutal nature would undoubtedly inject new life into the Mortal Kombat universe. Although there are already rumors of Deathstroke joining the second Kombat Pack, incorporating Deadpool into the game would not only align with the release of his upcoming film but also shatter industry boundaries.
Michael Myers
Completing the trifecta of terror alongside Jason from Mortal Kombat X and Freddy Krueger from Mortal Kombat 9, Michael Myers from Halloween is the perfect addition. Like an unstoppable force, this natural-born slayer, known as The Shape, brings forth a captivating moveset and the most jaw-dropping fatalities ever witnessed.
Sweet Tooth
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Needles Kane, the terrifying clown mascot of the famous Twisted Metal franchise, possesses an insatiable passion for murder. This ominous desire for bloodshed renders him an equally formidable adversary, even when he ventures outside the confines of his iconic ice cream truck. Given the recent resurgence of the character in the Peacock series, there has never been a more opportune moment to release the menacing Sweet Tooth upon the world.
Contrary to speculation, Buffy Summers never materialized as the inaugural female guest character in the series, despite rumors of her potential inclusion in consecutive games. Given the dearth of representation in this category and her expertise in dispatching the undead, she emerges as an ideal throwback guest character.
Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
