Uncovering the Depths of Despair with Sister Octavia in Diablo 4Diablo 4 is packed with various side quests that offer unique experiences. Among them is the quest chain that introduces Sister Octavia, an NPC who takes players on a journey to uncover the depths of despair. Although not directly tied to the main story, this quest chain takes players through familiar locations and introduces them to important characters, making it a worthwhile adventure to embark on.
Players have the option to skip the three-part quest chain in Diablo 4, but doing so would mean missing out on valuable rewards, experience points, and the chance to experience a spine-chilling horror story. Unlike typical quests that involve mundane tasks, the game's focus on battling evil and demon-slaying remains consistent throughout. Additionally, the level scaling system allows characters to undertake this quest at any point in the game, making it a seamless part of the overall gameplay experience.
Sister Octavia
Octavia, the NPC in charge of all three quests, is located on a side street in the city of Kyovashad. Her true identity and background remain shrouded in mystery, with some revelations surfacing during the quest series.
Despite her affiliation with the Cathedral of Light, which could indicate a leadership position, and her apparent familiarity with Mother Prava's personal life, Octavia operates outside of the church's strict guidelines. Her mission is a quiet but holy one.
Malady of The Soul
Octavia stands apart from her peers as she bravely attempts to rid individuals of their demon possessions and save their lives. This goes against the traditional belief of burning those who are possessed, making her a beacon of hope for those in Sanctuary who seek an alternative solution to their loved ones' afflictions.Upon meeting Sister Octavia, the character notices that she is in the presence of Petr and his possessed son. Petr is hopeful that Sister Octavia can perform a successful exorcism instead of resorting to burning his son.
Speak to Octavia and agree to assist her in exorcising the demon that has taken hold of her little boy, Vata. Follow Octavia and Petr inside the house and locate the Holy Chalice on the ground to begin the exorcism. The first wave of enemies will be a group of smaller minions that attack the player, followed by the demon Xul'goth, who is much more challenging to defeat. Xul'goth is essentially a mini-boss that needs to be destroyed before Vata can be restored to his original state. Once the demon is defeated, Sister Octavia will meet you outside with a reward and a mention of possible future assistance needed.
Depths Of Despair
After leaving Kyovashad, players can embark on the second quest by helping Octavia once again. This time, the task involves aiding a man named Vasek, whose wife has sought out Octavia's assistance. However, as the title of the mission suggests, things take an unexpected turn.
Join Octavia as she leads you to the victim's house, but this time you must be extra careful not to get caught. You hide upstairs while everyone searches for you in the basement. You make a daring escape and lead the pursuit into the Kyovashad Sewers, a treacherous mini-dungeon that is only accessible during this quest. Once inside, place the Holy Chalice in the same spot as before. It becomes clear that Demotath, a powerful demon, is the mastermind behind the possession. He proves to be an even tougher opponent than Xul'goth from the previous fight. Despite defeating Demotath, tragedy strikes as Vasek suddenly turns into a block of ice and dies. Leave the dungeon and meet with Sister Octavia outside. She rewards you for your help, but you notice that she looks unwell.
As you exit the dungeon, you come across the local Purveyor of Curiosities. However, she is in shock at the gruesome scene that Vasek left behind and is unable to sell you anything until the sewers are cleared of danger.
Faith In Blood
Octavia was not able to defeat Demotath as he had taken over her body. The player is now tasked with the challenging and lengthy mission of rescuing her from his grasp. This quest is notably more demanding than the other two in the game.
Kyovashad
Octavia is found in a precarious state at Kvera's house, barely coherent and in need of urgent help. She implores the player to assist in an exorcism that can only be carried out with the aid of a new Holy Chalice. However, the task is far from easy and will require the player to go to great lengths to obtain the necessary components.
Margrave
Travel to Margrave and seek out Priest Matvey near the grim pyre, where those possessed by demons are often executed. Matvey can be difficult to persuade, but he is known to fear the wrath of Mother Prava. By mentioning her name, the character may be able to convince Matvey to provide a new chalice. However, this chalice must be consecrated with a unique substance - the Blood of Sinners. To obtain this, one must venture into the nearby wilderness and seek out the criminals and bandits who hide there.
After collecting enough essence from the defeated foes, the chalice will be filled and ready for consecration. Take the chalice back to Matvey for the final step. He will then instruct the player to bring the Holy Chalice to Kyovashad and speak highly of him to Prava.
Kyovashad
Upon arriving back in Kyovashad, Petr is already waiting outside the house with urgent news - Octavia's condition has worsened and time is running out. Follow Petr inside and place the Holy Chalice on the designated spot to begin the exorcism. Despite the Baron of the Frozen Wastes' initial arrogance, Octavia manages to resist him and avoid the same fate as Vasek. Demotath rises once again, but is ultimately defeated, leading to Octavia's full restoration. Priest Matvey rushes in, abandoning all pretense, only to realize that the exorcism was successful and the demon is no more. Finally, meet Octavia outside and claim your well-deserved rewards, which include the coveted Sister's Prayer Book alongside gold, experience, and local recognition. Don't miss the chance to experience Diablo 4 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
