Editors Note: Look of the Week is a recurring series that delves into the most buzzed-about outfit of the past seven days, encompassing both the good and the bad.
Timothée Chalamet boldly faced London's chilly wind, opting for a bare-chest look for the premiere of his new film "Wonka."
Chalamet appeared in a magenta velvet suit from Tom Ford's Spring-Summer 2024 collection, with his torso peeking out from behind the lapels. "It's a chilly night," he remarked to a red carpet interviewer through gritted teeth. "I don't know why I decided to wear this."

Chalamet has often made a statement with bold red carpet looks, such as when he appeared at the Oscars in March 2022 in a black embellished Louis Vuitton blazer with lace trim, and when he wore a metallic red backless outfit from Haider Ackermann at the Venice Film Festival in September 2022 to promote "Bones And All". His daring fashion choices have been praised by W Magazine, which noted that he "rewrote the Oscars dress code" and made waves with the "androgynous, glam rock jumpsuit" inspired look.

At a separate "Wonka" photocall in London on Monday, Timothee Chalamet sported his favorite outfit formula, standing alongside Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson, and Olivia Coleman. Despite the gloomy weather, Chalamet boldly showcased a bare chest delicately framed inside a double-breasted Alexander McQueen pinstripe suit, while his British counterparts opted for more clothing.
But Chalamet is not the only celebrity pioneering shirtlessness. Other notable figures, such as Lil Nas X, Jonah Hill, Donald Glover, Jay-Z, and Harry Styles, have also been spotted going topless in recent years. High-end fashion brands like Dior, Dries Van Noten, Thom Browne, Paul Smith, and Zegna have similarly featured shirtless suits on the runway. Additionally, earlier this year, the mens luxury retailer Mr. Porter released a style guide on how to "go commando" under a suit, dubbing the look as such.

The trend of exposing clothing is unsurprisingly linked to subversive designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, and Raf Simons. It can be both erotic and subversive, as seen in Westwood's 1981 "Pirate" show and Gaultier's infamous Spring-Summer 1996 collection, titled "Pin-Up Boys." According to Mr. Porter, going shirtless under a suit is a way of playing with formal dress codes and making a statement. But for Chalamet, shirtlessness is becoming more like a signature statement.
