Starfield players are divided over the New Game Plus mode, with many finding the rewards of subsequent playthroughs underwhelming compared to what they have to give up.
Many players feel frustrated that they are unable to transfer their ships to New Game Plus, causing some to intentionally avoid completing the main quest. It is doubtful that Bethesda will make any significant changes to the mechanics of New Game Plus, but players remain hopeful that the issue will be resolved through community mods once official modding support is introduced in early 2024.
Recently, numerous Starfield players have expressed their dissatisfaction with the RPG's New Game Plus mode. Despite its intriguing implementation, Bethesda's take on the feature has become a divisive topic among fans.
Attention! The following contains spoilers regarding Starfield's NG+ mechanics. In Starfield's New Game Plus mode, players are only allowed to retain their levels, skills, powers, and research projects when starting a new campaign. However, their inventories, outposts, credits, and ships are all reset after completing the main story quest. To balance this out, Starfield rewards players with a unique ship and armor that improve with each subsequent playthrough, up to six and ten times respectively. Nevertheless, many fans have found these rewards to be underwhelming compared to what they must sacrifice in return.
The inability to carry over ships to New Game Plus has sparked frustration among many players. A post on the Starfield subreddit garnered significant attention, with numerous users expressing their disappointment. Some players expressed feeling devastated over the loss of their spacecraft fleets when starting a new playthrough, while others admitted to avoiding completing the main quest to preserve their custom Starfield ships.
Certain individuals even stated that they are unwilling to initiate another playthrough until a solution is found to circumvent this drawback in the New Game Plus mode. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that Bethesda will alter the core mechanics of NG+ due to story-related reasons, making the wait for such an option potentially lengthy. Despite this understanding, many players who are reluctant to part with their ship fleets remain hopeful that the Starfield modding community will eventually address this perceived flaw in New Game Plus.
In order for that to occur, the game will probably need to receive official modding support through its Creation Kit, which is expected to be released in early 2024. Based on Bethesda's past practices, these tools are typically launched around four months after the release of their respective games. This suggests that the Starfield Creation Kit may likely debut in late January or early February.
You can currently play Starfield on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
