Bukayo Saka will not be able to participate in England's upcoming matches against Australia and Italy as he has been examined by medical professionals at St George's Park. Despite not playing in Arsenal's victory against Man City, the 22-year-old joined the national team for duty. However, upon assessment from the England medical staff, he was sent back to his club to continue his recovery.
Gareth Southgate is unlikely to add a replacement to his squad of 25 players. Saka had to leave the pitch during Arsenal's 2-1 Champions League loss in Lens last Tuesday, following his earlier injury in their 4-0 victory over Bournemouth.
In the match against City, Arsenal's win took them joint-top of the Premier League, together with rivals Tottenham. This victory also marked the end of the winger's remarkable streak of 87 consecutive Premier League appearances. Despite manager Mikel Arteta initially stating that the winger would not join the England squad during the international break, he ultimately traveled to their East Midlands camp on Monday with his teammates. However, he was subsequently released from the squad.
"He's not going to make it," Arteta stated, emphasizing that he hasn't participated in any training sessions.
If England prevails against Italy at Wembley next Tuesday, they could secure qualification for Euro 2024, subject to the outcomes of other matches.
