Starfield's early access debut on August 31 has caused quite a stir, although not all for positive reasons. Dr Disrespect was taken aback when he began creating his character for the action RPG and realized that pronoun selection was not required in Starfield. However, despite this option, some players have been discouraged by the available pronoun choices, leading to a controversy that has gained significant attention. As a result, a portion of the player base is actively requesting refunds from Bethesda.

During his stream, Dr Disrespect briefly paused on the character profile screen, reading the page before pulling up the Twitter page of Pete Hines, the head of publishing at Bethesda. While still live on stream, he noticed the pronouns listed in Hines' bio, nodded, and took a deep breath, before stating, "Got it. Okay, now everything is starting to make sense."

Bethesda refused to sponsor Dr Disrespect due to his past controversies, without specifying which ones. Some speculate it may be related to his recent opinions on Call of Duty or his permanent ban from Twitch in 2020. Bethesda's PR department remained firm in their decision, even denying his request to play their game in Early Access like other popular streamers. Dr Disrespect expressed disappointment as he had been eagerly anticipating Starfield and felt excluded from the experience.

The Starfield developers did not choose to work with Dr Disrespect due to his pronoun-related statements, but it is possible that similar opinions or behaviors played a role. Dr Disrespect addressed the situation on September 4, stating that his channel does not engage in politics. Bethesda has not made any official statements regarding Dr Disrespect's claims, and it is unclear if they have any plans to do so. It is possible that the developers are currently focused on fixing glitches in Starfield and do not see a need to address the issue.

Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
