WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer. Lana Parrilla, who stars in the show, discusses the cliffhanger in the new season. Parrilla plays the character Lisa Trammell, who is both a love interest for the main character Mickey Haller and central to his major case. Lisa is a chef fighting against gentrification that threatens her restaurant and other businesses. At the end of part 1 of season 2, a vital piece of evidence suggests that she may be responsible for murdering a rival. This poses a significant challenge for Mickey, as he is her defense attorney.
In an interview with Netflix's TUDUM, Parrilla delves into the cliffhanger of part 1 of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2. The actress provides some insight into Lisa's thoughts and her past romantic involvement with Mickey. Ultimately, Parrilla, known for her role in Once Upon a Time, implies that the complex dynamics between client and attorney contribute to the uncertainty of the situation. Read Parrilla's quote below:
I believe he interrogated her. Lisa's character raised some doubts. Whenever her ex-husband was mentioned, it became a sensitive issue. After all, who willingly talks about their ex-spouse? Not many, especially if the separation was unpleasant.
However, considering he is her representative, it is irrelevant whether she is innocent or guilty. He is obligated to fulfill his job and advocate for her. Yet, personally, I think he had some uncertainties. The pause in their intimate relationship possibly made him more suspicious because there was no sexual influence shaping his perspective.
Lisa's Story Is Familiar In The Courtroom Drama Genre (Which Could Hint At Her Fate)
Courtroom dramas, especially those on television, often employ the narrative device of a character grappling with defending their client due to a pre-existing relationship. Prominent examples like The Practice and Ally McBeal heavily relied on this storyline. The former even introduced former friends and relatives as potential murderers, causing the main characters to feel conflicted about defending them and ultimately betrayed when their guilt is exposed. Both shows were created by David E. Kelley, who is also behind the Lincoln Lawyer adaptation on Netflix.
It remains uncertain whether The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, part 2, will follow a similar trend. The upcoming five episodes, premiering on August 3 on Netflix, continue directly after Mickey is attacked in the parking lot. It becomes evident that Maggie, Mickey's ex-wife, is deeply affected by the incident. It is possible that any revelations about Lisa will bring the former couple closer together.
There may be additional clues suggesting that Mickey is still in danger, as a scene in the trailer for Season 2, Part 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer shows him narrowly avoiding being hit by a car. This incident could potentially indicate Lisa's innocence and the presence of a larger conspiracy to protect the true culprit. However, the TV adaptation of the story has chosen to keep its possibilities open.
