Yhwach Reabsorbs Mask De Masculine – BLEACH Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 Episode 5

Renji's defeat of Mask De Masculine showcased a recurring pattern found in Yhwach's abilities: his capacity to assimilate the powers of his fallen soldiers. As Yhwach personally grants power through the Schrift-assignment ritual and given what is known about the catastrophic event called the Auswählen, where he forcibly strips away the power he had bestowed upon unworthy beings, it is not surprising that Yhwach possesses this reabsorption ability. However, the demise of Mask De Masculine, or rather, James, allowed us to witness this mechanic in a new light. What unfolded after the absorption of James' power holds great significance; as Yhwach vanished into a mysterious mist, the mist coalesced into Jugram Haschwalth – two sides of the same coin.

Heads, Tails

The Shocking Revelation: Yhwach's Ultimate Secret Unveiled in BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2

In BLEACH Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 5, Yhwach and Haschwalth's powers are interconnected. When Yhwach absorbs the powers of the deceased, he requires rest, allowing Haschwalth to take over. This explains the short duration of their previous invasion - Yhwach could not operate outside the Schatten Bereich ("Shadow Realm") for long periods. Despite being considered one, Yhwach and Haschwalth are not always available simultaneously. In the first cours of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War, Yhwach was impersonated by Royd Lloyd, one of the Sternritter Y's, during the battle with Genryūsai while Haschwalth was on the battlefield. The true Yhwach met with Sōsuke Aizen and then returned to absorb Royd's powers and kill the former Captain-Commander. Visually, the anime depicts their Captain and Lieutenant relationship by often showing Yhwach in the foreground and Haschwalth in the background. However, when Haschwalth is the main focus, Yhwach is never present in the same frame.

Haschwalth Executes Cang Du – BLEACH Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 Episode 6

In episode 6 of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War titled "The White Haze," Haschwalth provides further explanation and demonstration of Yhwach's ability to absorb the powers of deceased Quincies from his army. It goes beyond simply reabsorbing the powers he previously distributed; Yhwach also absorbs the host's development and mastery of those powers from their experiences. This means that when Yhwach took power from Mask De Masculine's remains, he not only acquired what he gave out initially but also De Masculine's growth in that power. Yhwach's Schrift-assignment ritual gives him a significant advantage in the long run because even if his forces diminish, his power continues to increase in relation to their demise.

Haschwalth brings Uryū to another hall in Silbern where prisoners who lost in combat are held and await capital punishment for their failures. Utilizing what appears to be Yhwach's sword, Haschwalth executes Sternritter I – The Iron, Cang Du, and Sternritter K, BG-9. They were defeated by 10th Squad Captain Hitsugaya's Hollowfied Bankai and 2nd Squad, Special Ops Division Captain Soi-Fon respectively.

Yhwach promptly absorbs their powers as well, and Haschwalth effectively clarifies the mechanics behind the Quincy King's power. It serves as both a test and a threat to Uryū. On one hand, it reveals a major secret of the Quincies to Uryū, demonstrating the consequences of defying or disappointing their king. This sequence not only delves into the mysteries surrounding the overpowering antagonist but also provides Uryū with a firsthand experience of a small-scale Auswählen. Haschwalth explains that there is no escape as the Schrift is engraved into the very souls of those who consume Yhwach's blood. He emphasizes the necessity for Yhwach to continue absorbing these souls, hinting at dire consequences if he were to stop. In a familiar fashion, Haschwalth's voice is abruptly silenced as he mouths something unspeakable. The censorship suggests that this secret is even more valuable than Yhwach's reabsorption ability. Whatever it may be, it is likely connected to Yhwach's unique composition as a reishi-distributing Quincy.
