A deleted scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 reveals that The High Evolutionary's plans are falling apart. This installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduces Chukwudi Iwuji's villain, a scientist determined to perfect the galaxy by creating a unique race of hybrids. Rocket, played by Bradley Cooper, is one of his early creations. The Guardians of the Galaxy must stop The High Evolutionary and protect Rocket from being reclaimed by the villain. In anticipation of the film's digital release on July 7, Screen Rant is excited to share this exclusive deleted scene.
Will The High Evolutionary Return In The MCU's Future?
The aforementioned clip showcases The High Evolutionary standing on the bridge of his vessel, with Reinaldo Faberlle's Behemoth paying him a visit. The antagonist from the Marvel Cinematic Universe seeks positive updates regarding the search for Rocket. Regrettably, Behemoth discloses that the Guardians have successfully neutralized Judy Greer's War Pig, much to the High Evolutionary's evident vexation.
After being thoroughly defeated by the cosmic superhero team, The High Evolutionary's fate was momentarily uncertain in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Rocket showed mercy and spared him, but seemingly abandoned him on his collapsing ship. Filmmaker James Gunn and visual effects artist Miguel Ángel Acevedo Montserrat later clarified that it was actually Dave Bautista's Drax who saved the MCU villain from certain death and imprisoned him on Knowhere.
With the character still alive, unlike previous major villains like Ronan the Accuser and Ego the Living Planet, many audience members are curious if The High Evolutionary will make a comeback in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. James Gunn, who directed the previous Guardians films, has now joined DC Studios as the co-CEO, leaving the future of these characters uncertain. However, hints from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, such as Rocket assembling a new team and the potential return of the "Legendary Star-Lord," provide some insight.
In the comics, The High Evolutionary has significant connections to various characters planned for future MCU projects. One notable connection is with the iconic X-Men villain, Mister Sinister, who served as his mentor. Additionally, The High Evolutionary has ties to the Fantastic Four, Thor, and Hercules, the latter of whom was introduced in Thor: Love and Thunder. Given that The High Evolutionary is also part of the Secret Wars storyline, which is expected to be the second Avengers movie, the possibilities for this villain's menacing presence in future stories are boundless.
Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is available to buy only at Digital retailers on July 7 and arrives on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™ and DVD on August 1.
