Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has announced that the eighth installment in the Like a Dragon series will be released in the West under the new title Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and has released a teaser trailer to accompany the announcement. The trailer was showcased during the Xbox Games Show, alongside other Sega games such as Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Fans were initially confused by the title, believing it to be a spin-off, but it was later confirmed to be Like a Dragon 8 with a new subtitle. The game was first announced last year during the RGG Summit 2022 event, where it was revealed that both Kazuma Kiryu and Ichiban Kasuga will be returning, alongside two other spin-offs: Like a Dragon Gaiden and Like a Dragon Ishin! remake. Gaiden is set to be released in November, with Infinite Wealth expected to follow suit. The new teaser trailer gives fans a glimpse of what's to come.
In the trailer for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, we see Ichiban Kasuga wake up naked on a crowded beach, seemingly unaware of his own nudity. He startles a nearby beach goer who laughs at his situation, before a couple informs him of his lack of clothing, causing him to panic. The Japanese trailer retains the title "Like a Dragon 8." The setting of the game has garnered attention from fans, as Ichiban is unable to understand anyone around him and the first character he encounters speaks perfect English. It is speculated that Ichiban has ended up in America, most likely the state of Hawaii due to the environment and cultural ties between Hawaii and Japan. This parallels Persona 5's Western vacation setting.
In addition to the teaser trailer, fans can also check out some new screenshots on the official website for the game. One screenshot features Ichiban, Nanba, and Adachi together, while another shows the main character spending time with Kazuma Kiryu. As the RGG Summit 2023 draws closer, fans can anticipate more details about Gaiden and Infinite Wealth to be revealed at the event. Keep an eye out for updates! Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is set to launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in early 2024.
