Summary
Jason Blum plans to move forward with The Purge 6 after being inspired by the successful Purge Experience at Horror Nights.
The Forever Purge teases a world where violence persists beyond the 12-hour timeframe, paving the way for an enthralling sixth installment. Fans eagerly anticipate the resurgence of Leo Barnes, portrayed by Frank Grillo, and a possible revelation of his fate following the incidents depicted in The Purge: Election Year.
Jason Blum has announced that his production company is pushing forward with The Purge 6, despite facing a two-year period of uncertainty. The horror franchise, which debuted in 2013, presents an ostensibly utopian America where all crime, including murder, is permissible for one night each year. Created by James DeMonaco, The Purge movies explore different time periods and characters, such as Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) and Dante Bishop (Edwin Hodge). Although no specifics about the future of the series were confirmed after The Forever Purge was released, Blum expressed a desire to produce The Purge 6.
During a panel at the New York Comic-Con event, "Blumhouse's Blumfest 2023," the producer indicated that his company is still committed to moving ahead with The Purge 6. He also mentioned that this year's Halloween Horror Nights experience influenced the decision. Below are Blum's comments regarding The Purge 6:
We take great pleasure in frightening individuals using various methods. During the Horror Nights events in Los Angeles and Florida, we created a remarkable immersive maze based on the movie 'Exorcist'. In addition, we executed a grand Purge Experience. Upon witnessing this, the revival of the 'Purge' franchise, which had been dormant for some time, sparked inspiration within me. It made me contemplate the idea of reigniting 'The Purge'. Therefore, without a doubt, I believe it is indeed necessary to bring it back to life.
What Could Happen In The Purge 6?
The violence in The Forever Purge extended beyond the 12-hour period, suggesting that the New Founding Fathers of America had lost their authority. The conflict between Purgers and the rest of the population persisted, setting the stage for a potential sixth installment. Writer DeMonaco has already crafted a script for the next movie, hinting at a drastically changed United States. The events of The Forever Purge will serve as the backdrop for this new story. Fans can also expect the return of actor Grillo, who played sergeant Leo Barnes in two previous Purge films. In his last appearance, Barnes was working to protect Senator Roan, leaving audiences curious about his fate. Grillo has revealed that The Purge 6 will delve into Barnes' journey, and there is interest from DeMonaco to once again direct the film.
Fans of films, as well as the briefly aired TV series, will undoubtedly be thrilled by Blum's remarks regarding the future of the franchise. The upcoming installment, The Purge 6, promises intriguing developments, including possible international settings. Additionally, the return of Barnes, a character absent for a significant period, has piqued the curiosity of audiences.
