The Red Ranger in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, Amelia Jones (Hunter Deno), gains new powers, costumes, Zords, and weapons. Her main Zord is the red Cosmic Lion, and her weapon is a giant hammer. This new series, a direct sequel to Power Rangers Dino Fury, introduces a fresh storyline and lineup, including Amelia as the new Red Ranger, following the reunion of some original Power Rangers in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always.
The introduction of the Cosmic Fury Red Ranger adds to the esteemed lineage of Power Rangers leaders, each leaving their mark on the identity of the Red Ranger throughout the Power Rangers series. From Jason Lee Scott (Austin St. John) in Mighty Morphin to Zayto (Russell Curry) in Dino Fury, the Red Ranger has historically held a crucial role within the team. With only a few exceptions, the Red Ranger has always taken on the mantle of leadership. Now, let's delve into the exciting addition of Amelia, the first-ever female Red Ranger to lead a team for an entire season in Power Rangers.
Dino Fury’s Amelia Jones Is Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s Red Ranger
Amelia Jones, originally known as the Dino Fury Pink Ranger, has now assumed the role of the Red Ranger in the Power Rangers Cosmic Fury team. She made her debut in Power Rangers Dino Fury as the first character, and the initial episode predominantly revolved around her perspective. The premiere episode followed Amelia as she delved into the mysteries surrounding the Dinohenge statues and stumbled upon the hidden headquarters of an ancient team of Power Rangers. Through a fortunate turn of events, Amelia, along with Ollie (Kai Moya), unintentionally became Power Rangers. Despite this accidental induction, both possessed the skills and intelligence necessary to triumph in their first battle as the Pink and Blue Dino Fury Rangers.
Before long, Zayto, the Dino Fury Red Ranger hailing from the alien planet of Rafkon, joined forces with Amelia and Ollie. Together, they formed the original lineup of the Power Rangers Dino Fury team, following the tradition of several other Power Rangers teams starting with three members. While Zayto assumed the leadership role as the Red Ranger, Amelia could be considered his second-in-command. In terms of the storyline, Amelia held significant importance in Dino Fury, particularly in the second season. The final episodes of Power Rangers Dino Fury unveiled Amelia's parents as the show's villains and unveiled her true identity as an alien. This development positioned Amelia for a more prominent role in Cosmic Fury.
Why Amelia Goes From Dino Fury Pink To Cosmic Fury Red
Zayto, who died in the finale of Power Rangers Dino Fury season 2, quickly returned. However, he disappeared once again after his first battle with the Power Rangers. Without a leader, Amelia stepped up to the challenge and became the new leader of the Power Rangers. She guided her teammates, ensuring they never lost hope. Despite the number of episodes, all the characters in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury had their moment to shine, with Amelia taking the lead in Zayto's absence. The Dino Fury Rangers lost their powers early on in the series, but luckily, Billy, the original Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger and the most intelligent character in the Power Rangers universe, was there to help. Billy created the Cosmic Fury morphers and provided each Ranger with a Cosmic Orb, which became their new source of power. The Cosmic Orbs only took on colors after the Rangers morphed for the first time, indicating that the Morphin Grid chose their new colors. Most of the Rangers retained their Dino Fury colors, but Amelia became the Red Ranger.
With Zayto embarking on a separate and distinct mission, it was the Morphin Grid itself that deemed Amelia as the worthy successor to don the mantle of the Red Ranger. All the Rangers, including Zayto, unanimously agreed on Amelia being the perfect candidate to assume the mantle of the Cosmic Fury Red Ranger. As the team faced their most challenging moment after Zayto's demise and intricate return, it became evident that there was no one more suitable than the former Pink Ranger to lead them. Importantly, Zayto's significance to the show remained intact. As the Zenith Ranger, he embarked on an intensely emotional journey, ultimately acquiring exceptional powers before his selfless sacrifice as he ascended to the esteemed rank of Morphin Master.
Amelia’s Red Ranger Costume, Zords, & Weapons Explained
After the destruction of the Dinohenge statues by Lord Zedd, the Power Rangers lost their Dino Fury powers. Consequently, Amelia's original costume and powers were permanently lost. However, the Rangers were bestowed with new Zords from the planet of Zordnia, the homeland of the Shogunzords from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Power Rangers Cosmic Fury draws inspiration from Kyuranger, a Super Sentai series renowned for its numerous Mechas. Thus, unlike the previous format where each Ranger had a specific Zord, Cosmic Fury deviated by showcasing the same Ranger operating various Zords throughout the series. Nonetheless, Amelia's primary Cosmic Fury Zord was the red-colored Cosmic Lion.
In Dino Fury, the use of a singular main weapon, the Dino Fury Saber, was a common practice among all Power Rangers. However, Cosmic Fury defied this relatively new tradition by equipping each Ranger with a distinct weapon, mirroring the concept of signature gadgets for every Mighty Morphin Power Ranger. The Red Ranger of Cosmic Fury wielded the Red Ankylohammer, an intricately designed weapon inspired by Amelia's Dino Fury Zord. Notably, the Red Ranger Costume, along with all the primary suits in Cosmic Fury, was exclusively created for the show and does not have its origins in Kyuranger or any other Sentai. Despite this, the design of the Red Ranger's helmet in Cosmic Fury retained elements from the Pink Ranger helmet in Dino Fury, albeit with a different color scheme.
How Powerful Cosmic Fury Amelia Is Compared To Previous Red Rangers
When comparing different Power Ranger teams, it can be challenging due to the unique power level systems of each show. However, certain aspects hold true across franchises. For instance, the Zeo Crystals are widely recognized as the most potent artifacts in the galaxy, making the Zeo Rangers potentially the strongest in the saga. Consequently, it is reasonable to assert that Zeo Ranger 5 Red Tommy Oliver (Jason David Frank) is the most powerful Red Ranger in Power Rangers. Additionally, Zayto's Ghost Ranger form, briefly glimpsed in Cosmic Fury, exhibits immense power as well.
The stakes were extremely high in the final battle of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, especially after Lord Zedd transformed into Master Zedd. It is important to recognize the accomplishments of the Rangers throughout the season. While they were unable to defeat Master Zedd in a direct confrontation, they successfully saved Earth from an alien invasion. Red Ranger Amelia did not engage in many individual fights, but the core Power Rangers team received assistance from characters such as Billy, Tarrick, and Heckyl. Despite this, the Cosmic Orbs and Cosmic Zords showcased significant power, establishing Amelia as one of the strongest Red Rangers in Power Rangers history following Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.
