That '90s Show paid a subtle homage to two beloved characters from That '70s Show and the actors who played them. The sitcom sequel brought back the iconic Forman residence, with Red and Kitty leading the way in a nostalgia-driven spinoff. As a result, there were many familiar elements on the new set, such as the old living room sofa now situated in the basement and Kitty's owl decorations still adorning the kitchen shelves. Additionally, there were clever nods to the events and characters of That '70s Show, many of which were brought to the That '90s Show set by one of the stars.
In That '90s Show, Leia Forman moves in with her grandparents in Point Place, Wisconsin, for the summer. This means that Red and Kitty have become regular and comedic fixtures throughout the series, providing the perfect dose of nostalgic charm from That '70s Show. Other characters also make cameo appearances in That '90s Show, including Eric and Donna joining Leia in the first episode, Kelso and Jackie showing up to claim their son, Jay, and Fez popping in every few episodes. Naturally, there are certain actors and characters who are unable to appear, but the show manages to honor them nonetheless.
That '90s Show's Set Includes A Picture With Betty White and Tom Poston
Kitty's tumultuous relationship with her parents was a prominent storyline in several episodes of That '70s Show. Bea and Burt Sigurdson portrayed the quintessential dysfunctional married couple, with Bea consistently nagging Burt (who would retreat whenever possible). The roles of Bea and Burt were brought to life by acting legends Betty White and Tom Poston, both of whom have now passed away and cannot reprise their characters in the spinoff. Nevertheless, keen-eyed viewers of That '90s Show may notice a photo of Kitty with her beloved parents displayed on the living room bookshelf.
This particular photograph, captured during the days of That '70s Show, had been in the possession of actress Debra Jo Rupp (through Netflix) since the original series concluded. It is presumed that Rupp kept this memento to honor her experience working with these legendary individuals. However, when the crew of That '90s Show began reconstructing the Forman home set, Rupp decided to bring the photo back. Ultimately, it is fitting for Kitty to have a picture of her complex yet cherished parents in her living room, making this small tribute a superb finishing touch.
Debra Jo Rupp Brought Back Other Kitty Mementos From That '70s Show
When production of the finale of That '70s Show concluded in 2006, several cast members decided to keep some souvenirs from the set. However, Kurtwood Smith, who portrays Red, revealed that it was Rupp who took the most items from the old set. It is said that she claimed nearly all of Kitty's most memorable possessions and was responsible for returning them when filming of That '90s Show began. Smith mentioned that Rupp had to rent a van to bring back all the items, including the infamous pea-green chair, glass grapes, and even Kitty's sewing machine. These items, along with the cherished photo of Betty White and Tom Poston, added an authentic touch to the Forman home.
