Starring Basim Ibn Ishaq, who was first introduced in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Assassin's Creed Mirage takes players back in time to when Basim was a 17-year-old street thief in Baghdad. However, his life takes a drastic turn when he is approached by a secretive organization and, upon joining the Hidden Ones, embarks on a journey to become a skilled Assassin. As with other installments in the Assassin's Creed series, Assassin's Creed Mirage features hidden surprises, including its own Easter eggs.

A Reddit user named SirLagunaLoire discovered an Easter egg in Assassin's Creed Mirage's side quest involving a Necronomicon. The Necronomicon, also known as the Book of the Dead, is one of the missing books from the House of Wisdom listed as Kitab al-Azif, its original name. By solving a puzzle, the player shows that the Kitab al-Azif can be located in the ruins to the southeast of the map, surrounded by goat bones. The Necronomicon is a fictional grimoire created by HP Lovecraft, known for containing forbidden knowledge capable of endangering the reader's sanity. It is also closely associated with Cthulhu, a Lovecraftian creature that has made numerous appearances in games and popular culture.

However, this is not the only reference to Lovecraft discovered by SirLagunaLoire in Assassin's Creed Mirage. When returning to the Kitab al-Azif, Basim, the character, receives an item called the Monstrous Talisman. Players will notice that the talisman has the same shape as Cthulhu.
