Highlights
The Mandalorian season 4 is expected to be the final season, providing a proper ending to the story of Din Djarin and Grogu.
Season 4 of the show will address unresolved matters, such as the reconstruction of Mandalore under the leadership of Bo-Katan Kryze. In case the show extends beyond season 4, there is a possibility of exploring various Mandalorian characters in a series resembling an anthology, which would pave the way for Dave Filoni's upcoming Star Wars film.
The Mandalorian surpassed expectations as the most highly anticipated Star Wars production of 2019, offering a fresh perspective within the expansive Star Wars universe. Through the introduction of new characters as well as the return of beloved favorites from The Clone Wars, novels, and even Rebels, the show has enriched the saga. The lead protagonist, Din Djarin, embodied the long-awaited qualities fans associated with Boba Fett, until Boba Fett himself found redemption in the second season.
The Mandalorian appears to have delivered a mostly conclusive narrative, granting its main characters a seemingly content conclusion in the third season. Despite this, a fourth season is expected to continue the adventures of Din Djarin and the adorable Grogu. Although challenging for many fans to accept, as The Mandalorian has offered a captivating corner of the Star Wars galaxy that goes beyond the focus of the Jedi, it would be optimal for the series to conclude with its fourth season. Ending on a positive note is preferable to ending the show amidst significant disapproval.
The Mandalorian Season 4 Could be a Satisfying Finale
Din Djarin and Grogu faced numerous challenges together before finally establishing a piece of land on the planet Nevarro, with the help of their friend Greef Karga. Initially a formidable bounty hunter, Din's life took a different turn when he encountered Grogu, leading him to become a devoted guardian and eventually a surrogate father to the powerful alien. Together, they triumphantly recaptured Mandalore for the remaining Mandalorians in the galaxy, allowing the battle-worn humans to revive their culture and rebuild their homeworld.
However, settling on Nevarro didn't mean abandoning their warrior ways, as Din Djarin not only adopted Grogu (now known as Din Grogu) but also took him on as an apprentice. Additionally, the ex-bounty hunter also embraced an opportunity to work independently for the New Republic, a decision that is likely to bring more chaos with the arrival of a certain Chiss on Dathomir.
The fourth season of The Mandalorian is expected to address several unresolved storylines from the previous season. One key plot point involves the rebuilding of Mandalore, now under the leadership of Bo-Katan Kryze. Additionally, fans are excited to witness the growth of Grogu, who may develop into a proficient Mandalorian and potentially acquire combat and communication skills without relying on an IG-unit shell, thanks to the guidance of Din Djarin. By tying up these loose ends, the show would be able to deliver a satisfying conclusion.
What is Left to Say after a Mandalorian Season 4
Season four of the show will delight fans with a finely crafted storyline that builds upon the foundation laid in the previous season. Jon Favreau's dedication to continuity is evident as he reveals that he had already penned the fourth season while wrapping up production for season three. In an exclusive interview with Film Stories, he expressed his intention to seamlessly continue the saga.
I wrote it during post-production in order to maintain a consistent and cohesive narrative.
It appears that Favreau and Filoni are weaving interconnected narratives in their respective projects. It is evident that the conclusion of Ahsoka will somehow link to The Mandalorian. However, once the current season concludes, there will be limited remaining plotlines for Din Djarin. In the same interview, Favreau further elaborated:
The success of our work ultimately hinges on the reception of our audience. As long as they appreciate and enjoy it, we derive satisfaction from the process and wish to continue this enjoyable undertaking for the foreseeable future.
Regrettably, a significant portion of our fanbase expressed discontentment with certain aspects of the third season. Some felt that Din Djarin, the protagonist, took a backseat in his own show, relinquishing the spotlight to Bo-Katan. Moving forward, it may be worth exploring the possibility of the show taking on an anthology format, featuring various Mandalorian characters, if the series continues beyond season four.
Once Din Djarin completes Grogu's training, they embark on missions for the New Republic, providing fans with glimpses of Mandalore's development. However, beyond these adventures, there is not much more to reveal. In the season three finale, Moff Gideon met his demise, and bringing him back would not be met with enthusiasm from fans. It would be quite challenging to surpass him as a villain, unless that role is taken on by Thrawn. After season four, there is essentially only one storyline left to explore, which leads us to the highly anticipated Mandalorian movie Filoni is currently working on, which promises to reach the grandeur of the Avengers.
Mandalorian Season 4 can Help set up Dave Filoni's Star Wars Movie
Although he never made an on-screen appearance, Grand Admiral Thrawn had a substantial influence on the events of the third season of The Mandalorian. Following the events in Ahsoka, we can expect the Grand Admiral to assume an even more prominent role in the series as he returns to the main Star Wars galaxy. Once the New Republic learns of his arrival and witnesses the increasing organization of the Imperial remnant, they are sure to enter a state of complete panic. In the upcoming season four, Mando and Grogu will undoubtedly find themselves immersed in a flurry of missions against the Imperials, keeping them fully occupied.
This would be the ideal opportunity to begin Filoni's Star Wars movie. It would provide the show with the much-needed focus that fans felt was missing in season three, while also generating excitement for the upcoming film. Additionally, it would prominently feature Thrawn as the main antagonist, showcasing his formidable nature even when facing adversaries who have ample resources at their disposal, unlike Ahsoka and her crew. Ending season four with Din Djarin and Grogu's defeat against Thrawn's forces would add a certain appeal, effectively highlighting Thrawn as the monumental threat that everyone warned the New Republic about in Ahsoka.
